Wordpress Tag Cloud

I tried googling this but couldn't find anything. So, I came here!

Is the tag cloud important? Articles already display the tags for them so why do I need a huge cloud of tags on my sidebar? I am trying to clean up the sidebar so it looks better and curious if removing the tag cloud would ruin my traffic.

Let me know what you guys think.

Keep or remove tags would never help you in gaining or loosing traffic.

The only advantage of the Tag Cloud is like the sitemap, it ensures that a search engine gets through all the various parts of your site. Is it necessary? Nope. In pretty much every site I build, I remove it. It is not appealing to a client to have all the garbage on the side of the site. Does it help search engines? I guess so, but I've never had a problem getting a post indexed already. It's great for additional keywords to get plugged into the page, but that's about it.

I never put the tag cloud on my Wordpress blogs. It wouldn't look good on the blogs. It may help a bit with your SEO effort, but it wouldn't help much.
