Hi folks,

Small survey for you all. What do you people use for an OS now on your PC?

Personally, I now use Windows 98SE on my Quantex PC here. My new Medion one which I'm getting will house Windows 2000 Professional and Mandrake Linux 9.2 PowerPack. All WorkStations for my company use Windows 98SE as well, however all new ones use Mandrake Linux 9.2 PowerPack as well, and I'm considering converting old ones to Linux as well! :D

So, what about you people?

I run Redhat 9 on my laptop and XP on the desktop that is used maybe once in a blue moon and it is a print server also :)

Nice. How do you find using Linux as a desktop?
Personally I've not used it as a desktop yet, have not even tested the new workstations with it on, heh, I merely got it due to the fact it was advised to by the technician here and also saw it would cut costs by some. :D

I'm planning to get a copy or so of Knoppix and test that out soon, true it isn't anything like Mandrake Linux or even RedHat Linux, but it's better than nothing. ;)

<< I use XP on most systems here.. if not that its 98SE. >>

Nice Gordy. Personally, I'd never touch Windows XP, however for me using either 98SE or 2000 Professional is never a problem. However, I'd under no circumstances use XP Family or Pro I'm afraid under business/work conditions.

Linux on my laptop seams to run very well. I can run some Windows apps but most of the apps for Windows are available for Linux. Personally, I am sick of Microsoft's bugs.

Yes, I too am sick of Microsoft and their bugs.
For fun, one day, I checked out and worked out how much it'd cost for me to have a team of 50 work on a good OS which would be created and released in 5 years, and which would be immune to virus', which could run programs for linux, apple and windows... but the cost was... well, let's say $30,000,000+ currently isn't in my back pocket, just yet. ;)

Thanks for the tip Turnkey, although I don't think I still have $15,000,000 to make a brilliant OS. ;)

However, I know that Lindows used Linux for the base of their OS. However, they failed totally in making it possible to run Windows programs on it perfectly... maybe one day when I do get around to making one, I can do it properly. ;)

I have that on my home computer, its not too bad, comes with a lot more than I thought they could compress on one CD but its still not the real thing ;)

At home I run xp pro on all machines, only have problems on the one but I just got that upgraded a lot and getting rid of old hardware in it so wont have any problems with that now.

At work the network is mainly 2000 on the computers I use but also some with xp pro, dont use those very often though
