Will politics help/hurt ranking for Google?

Google's chief exec is going on the campaign trail with Obama this week to show his strong support for the Democratic candidate. He claims that Google as a company is neutral, though, but I find that unlikely after seeing employee campaign donation distributions:
Google employees have contributed $487,355 to Sen. Obama's campaign and $20,600 to Sen. McCain's as of Aug. 31.

Rather disparate numbers.

I highly doubt that he's impartial either, but considering it's a multi-billion dollar company, he has to say they're neutral =)

Of course they can

They just can't announce the fact that they are supporting a particular candidate but they can certainly advocate that person to their employees. Considering the huge gap in the numbers for donations from their employees, it certainly looks like someone is strongly encouraging them in the Democratic direction.

Or it may be that the typical Google employee is better represented by the democrats. If stay at home moms would be 90% in favor of one party, there would be no suspicion of foul play. :)

It's one thing to be encouraged to sustain a party and say (for the sake of conformity) that you do sustain it, and another thing to actually take money out of your picket and give it to that party. I don't think you'd have people do that unless they do sustain what that party stands for.

Just an observation but the GOP base seems to be far less tech savvy than democrats.
I'm guessing an Obama win would be a positive thing for Google while a McCain win would have little affect.

I hope McCain wins I have nothing against Obama but McCain is a war vet and has gone through a ton of torture and he deserves it the most.

He deserves to be president because he was a prisoner of war??????

That is a VERY low standard by which to choose a president.

Presidency is not a way to repay someone, it is not a prize or a reward. It's a job. The fact that the man fought for his country may play a role in a decision to vote him or not, but it should not be the only reason. You could easily end up with a "Forrest Gump" being US president that way.

I do not think I would want to change my company's reputation and say that everyone is one thing or another. That could lead to some serious backfire depending on who your clients are.

good point, Blue

That's a very good point, Blue, that I had not considered. Between the general techie bent and the whole issue of net neutrality that's been raised, the Democrats probably are more representative of internet users in general.
