Why do a lot of people hate microsoft so much?
i dont see a reason for it..
I dont think their products are that bad, they are pretty stable and a lot use them.

Is it just because the company is making so much money and some people get jealous?
Or something else?

i dont have any problem with them but I know a lot of people dont like them, just wondering why...

The reason most people, well at least me for sure, is because I run MS on all 10+ of my home computers and run Unix/Linux on none of them, so all my problems are towards MS since that is all I run.

I only run Unix/Linux on the dedicated servers, and that is only 2. So the ratio of MS:Nix is about 10:2.. so there is a far greater chance I will have a windows problem :)

yeah i know what you mean but I have very very bad problems with xp because it crashes every 30 mins or so for me (changing to 2000 soon) but i still dont hate microsoft or hold anything against the company...

Some people seem to have a personal hate for microsoft and thats what i dont really get

Yeah I don't hate MS, otherwise I would probalby install nix on my computer or something, just it tends to piss me off with all them viruses and such.. lol

1) When I lived in England we had Microsoft tech support run by Microsoft themselves and I never found them useful.

2) Microsoft is against Open-Source.

3) They don't like Linux (because it's open-source).

4) You can't uninstall IE.

5) When apple made their own web browser Microsoft suddenly refused to continue work on IE for Mac (not that I mind much).

6) They have been promising cross platform programming in VB but it's now ten years later and they still won't admit that they have no plans to do this.

7) I signed up with their hotmail service and two days later had 128 spam mails in my in box.

8) PocketPC's are only compatible with Windows computers.

9) They replaced Suns Java compiler with a Microsoft Java compiler that only compiles for Windows.

10) Windows Media Player has a streaming media format that's only supported on windows and when someone built a compatible Linux player Microsoft threatened to sue them.

11) Windows ME (Or like I prefer it Windows More Errors).

and so on.

So in short I changed to Apples new Mac OS X. Well it's not very new now but it was when I changed to it.

So I guess you could say I am a personal hater of MS.

Microsoft is against Open-Source.

Agree with you here, thats one thing i dont like about them...
Im for open source and freeware but you dont get much microsoft freeware ;)

I signed up with their hotmail service and two days later had 128 spam mails in my in box.

I have used hotmail and yahoo and i have closed 2 yahoo accounts in a few years because of spam, I still have the same account from hotmail for about 2 years now and only get about 1 spam every few days which gets into my inbox (rest go to junk box)

PocketPC's are only compatible with Windows computers.

i think its more up to the maker of the pocketPCs which OS it can run.

good points though :)

Microsoft is deffinatly one of the, if not THE, biggest companies for computer software, no matter how many people do not like MS, I don't see the billion dollar company being shut down.

Im sure there is no way it will shut down.
I think free open source OS (operating systems) are becoming more prevalent with more people turning to them.

Microsoft will remain the market leader for OS for years to come i think though.

It is the almost always standard OS when you buy a new computer, and is more user friendly for the beginner I would think, so that is a plus for windows over linux.

its a trend. Lets all hate microsoft... They are the biggest out there and it is easy to pick up the top dog in an industry. Although yes they do not offer opensource and everything that google listed. Could they make their software more secure and work better, well yes of course, but where is the money in that...

Why do people hate MS because they are against open source? I for one love open source applications, but I don't hate MS for not liking open source applications. Who am I to say they have to give something away? Their business model is not built around open source, and it seems to be working pretty good for them.

I didnt say i dont like them because of that, i just prefer things that are open source, and being a programmer i do edit some applications that are opensource... I cant stand people that bitch about a program not being open source, but even if it was they don't know/understand the programming language so what good would it do for them anyway...

people complain that windows is not open source, my immediate question to them is "how many linux kernals have you re-written?"

I have never been troubled by the Microsoft products. They work for me and if you stay of the dodgy websites you tend to stay secure!

Their support is another matter. ;)

Well said! I never have a problem with any of their products. I'll put it down to knowing how to use them properly! I think people hate Microsoft because of their success and control. I've heard a lot about DRMs in Vista. If what people are saying is true, I'll switch to a decent distro of Linux before Vista even though it looks very, very cool.
