WHT has gone too far!

Ok, I'm not unable to access WebHostingTalk and the thread regarding the ban of dk2. So basically I'll explain here what it's all about:

dk2, a positive WHT member created a thread allowing the members of WHT to voice their opinions, and say how they think WHT could be improved.

Well, he decided to let a few people know about the thread via private messaging. I personally was very glad to receive it, as I never visited that part of the board (It was in the WHT Announcements/etc. forum.). They apparently reported the PMs, and then SoftwareRevenue (From what's been released, it seems to be him) banned dk2.

Many people think it's disgraceful, myself included. Then IncognitoNet, another very respected member, created a thread about it in The Lounge, and it was moved to the WHT Announcements/etc. forum because very few people visit that part of the board.

So... not very good on the side of WebHostingTalk.

Can't really share my comments as I was not able to see the thread.. But, clearly the move was in bad taste. What announcements have to do with users expressing their opinions, I woudn't know!

I cant access this thread either - and I cant really speak to this thread specifically as I have not seen it..

However, WHT has VERY rigid policies - makes it tough sometimes to be a positive contributor - having said this, I do understand the necessity for rigid rules on a board of that size - particularly within this industry...

BUT - If everything occured as you outlined above, I think a ban for just this incident is pretty harsh... Now, keep in mind, we dont know if this particular poster had accumulated "WHT Merit Points" previous to this for other infractions - they may have already been almost banned - and this incident simply pushed them over the top..

Either way, once enough points expire, the posters ban will be lifted... I know I have received some merit points over at WHT - and often times, I have a hard time understanding why - but - on the whole, they seem to handle this part quite well - If they banned this user strictly on this occurance alone, I hope they take the time to review and reconsider this...

Won't be the first time they've done that.

I've been appalled many times by the way they decide to enforce rules.

I don't like to comment on anything here to do with WHT as I don't want any members here to be trying to put down another site, but I have to agree on this issue.

IF that was the only reason he was banned, I don't think it is right.
True, the rules are strict, and that is fair enough, but this wasn't playing by the rules, again, IF this was the only reason and dk2 didn't already have warning points and this made him go over the ban level.

According to the rules there are only a few things that mean an outright ban, and this isn't one of them.

The post itself was not the reason for the ban, the reason was that dk2 sent PMs to tell people about the thread and someone complained it was spam.

Hey John,

Well I had just got wacked for 10 warning points a few days before for advertising. I thought the rule was you were allowed to post once per 7 days in each advertising forum. You are allowed only to post once per 7 days in the entire advertising catagory. When that happened I read the rule and apoligized.

I have read some of the stuff that is going on over there and IMO that site isn't going to last much longer, it appears to me that there are 2 sets of staff trying to run the place WHT staff and iNet staff.

Then when some one claims that iNet staff have come up with rules for IRC for example, then you get iNet staff coming on saying they have nothing to do with the setting of the rules.

Someone over there needs to get a grip on who actually runs the site and then one set of staff needs to keep out.

The problem with large sites like WHT they are inward looking and don't like people pointing out to them where they are going wrong. They have become too complacent and too ingrained in running a certain way that they do not want to listen to positive suggestions.

They have had three different people running the site over the years and that points out to me that something is going wrong over there.
