WHT finally stepped up to the plate and killed the hosting/dedicated hosting request section... time to narrow down all the newbie Resellers and let the guys in it for real take over.

I personally think its a bold move to do such a thing... there are a lot of good quality hosts posting to peoples specific needs. However I think they went around this the wrong way... if the moderators did their job in the first place and didnt allow outrages posts like 5GB disk 200GB Transfer for $19.99 per month they would of weeded that all out a while ago. Or had they had hosts wanting to post offers go through some sort of Business background check before posting in the 'requests' section....

What are your guy's thoughts on this?

I agree to some extent, although I think moderators jobs are far too easy, and they dont do what they should. The problem should never have arisen if they had good enough staff to start off with who did their job fully.
 
I used to love WHT at one point but recently it has been the worst place I would ever want to hang around. The moderators are too bossy and they think they are better than everybody which spoils my mood right away. I agree about them closing their hosting/dedicated requests section and I think that this will bring their community down and a lot of members will lose posts which I am not sure will cope up well in the society but lets see how it goes.

I think its a good mvoe to remove the shared forum but not so sure about the dedicated.
Everyone knows about the stupid offers from hosts in the shared forum but I dont think there was the same problem with the dedicated requests, although I dont think I ever posted in that myself, been a member on WHT since 05/2002
I think the posts will end up being posting in the other forums, as people said, if the moderators were able to control it at an earlier stage it might not have got out of control.
I dont think WHT will ever be the good site it used to be and a lot of people have left it now

WHT is a good learning experience to see what can happen if things are not handled in a proper way. The whole board was mainly this concept.

Someone places an add for blah blah hosting
Host replies with an offer and price
Next Host replies with an offer and price cheaper than the other host
Next Host replies with an offer and price cheaper than the other host
Next Host replies with an offer and price cheaper than the other host
and so on....

It was like a freaking auction. I think if we are to offer a Hosting Request/Offers section that all posts must be verified by a moderator.... as in we go to that businesses site and verify those packages are posted on that businesses site.... if its not, remove their offer.

That way we dont have hosts competing with unexisting plans just to land a customer. If the host has a plan that matches the users request they can simple post what they have to offer, however it must be what is mentioned on the site.

However.... if they were to offer HT Member specials.... like 10% off... they would need to have a coupon system.

I donno, I just get sick of all this hosts battling for a measly $2 a month. I think if HT is going to offer this type of forum.... that the mods should do some research on what is being posted.... and make sure it is a legit offer.
 
Actually, thats a good point. Post moderation just in that select board would of helped a lot, it would of been a bit more work for mods, but to go through and approve certain posts they think are good and some which arent would definitely help.
