WHMCS ended their distributor program

Hi

This will effect everyone who purchases their licences from other distributors like Licencepal

Notice - 20th March 2013

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond LicensePal's control, WHMCS ended their distributor program with immediate effect and therefore we are no longer able to sell WHMCS licenses. We must emphasise WHMCS had no issues with LicensePal's business practices or customer service and we have held a good relationship with them since their program started seven years ago. This move has been driven by WHMCS wanting a direct relationship with clients.

Existing leased license owners will be transitioned into being billed directly by WHMCS over the next month and a half. Between now and 04/15/2013, WHMCS has provided a coupon code that will provide you a 50% discount on your first month of service. To take advantage of this coupon code, visit http://www.whmcs.com/order-now/ and on checkout enter the code 'licensepal50'. A new license key will be provided once the order has been completed and you will need to update your WHMCS installation with it. For all leased licenses still active with us on 1st May 2013, they will automatically become paid licenses at WHMCS and no further action would be required on your part. We will be emailing all existing customers with this information over the course of the next month.

We will continue to offer our range of other software including cPanel/WHM, SolusVM, ClientExec, and much more, at our usual discounted prices with the support you enjoy. In addition, we will continue to offer installation, integration and upgrade services for WHMCS.

If you have any queries, please open a support ticket.

Best regards,

Jay Shah
Managing Director
LicensePal Limited

I only paid my licence with LP today and not work from them as i only found out after getting this from Hudson Valley Host

Dear Terry,
Hudson Valley Host is a proud partner of WHMCS software. As a partner of WHMCS we are able to pass our savings on WHMCS licenses to our customers. Recently WHMCS has stopped their distributor program to such places as buycpanel and licensepal. We are inviting any of our current customers who receive their licenses elsewhere to switch to us and save 25% off the first month on your WHMCS license. Each additional month is only $13.95. You can receive this discount on a new license by simply opening a ticket with our sales department. We thank you for your business and as always if you have any questions feel free to contact us.

Thank You,
Hudson Valley Host

This is a downer , Sucks that licensepal wont be offering their licenses at a discounted rate. So now we have to pay though whmcs themselves?

nothing to do with LP, but i went with LP as they were cheaper. i have been offered a cheap licence from other source, but would have to take hosting with them, so it looks like after all these years and investment in WHMCS i will be moving elsewhere

Got free license through HG, I wonder if hosts are going to be dropping this as well. That would suck...

Internal reselling would be a huge part of WHMCS business with so many companies offering this, I'd be very surprised if this was dropped (most likely won't be). I'd also think its a stupid move...

Good on Hudson Valley Host for getting in there quickly! :)

and HVH even offered me a 40% discount on any of their VPS if i added one to my VPS reseller plan with them. This would of been fine last week, but i signed up for a £30 a month mobile phone 24 month contract yesterday after many years just on a Pay and Go phone, so could not justify another VPS at their prices for what they offered in resources.

There's really no need to speculate that cPanel has a hand in this for recouping investment or otherwise. It's purely a business decision to allow WHMCS to support the users of it's software better, and more efficiently, rather than having to direct support through a third party provider further aggravating an end user.

WHMCS is working to improve every aspect of it's product, and providing world class support directly is absolutely one of those aspects.

It's a real shame that WHMCS did this! They are starting to act even worse than HostBill.

Yes it is. We are looking at moving to Clientexec, although have took up WHMCS on their 50% off for the first month licence with them. We have spent a small fortune on WHMCS addons and modules and even our site is a purchased themes with an attached WHMCS integration, we even have the whmcs live chat addon.

an official statement has been released here http://forum.whmcs.com/showthread.p...e-the-Distributor-Program&p=303871#post303871

i especially like

Eliminating the discounts that distributors were being given, that allowed some users to benefit from the same product at a cheaper price, allows us to invest more into the product development which you will see reflected in the more frequent software releases which we committed to earlier this month alongside the release of our latest update, additional staff and many other goals that we have set ourselves for 2013 & 2014.

Yes i got a discount from Licencepal, but this discount allowed us to pay for the WHMCS live chat Addon, so we may have to discontinue this addon, so WHMCS will still lose out

I wouldn't say that, they really only made one change (ending the distributor program) vs HostBill who changes on a weekly basis. I think that is a little to far!

Why? Does WHMCS work for you (I assume it does if your using them this whole time), you are considering changing what works because of a few extra dollars?

WHMCS / cPanel knows that WHMCS is WHMCS and people will use it even if they ain't getting the few dollars off - How many licenses did LicensePal / BuycPanel have? I mean LicensePal got each license for $7 (according to LicenseCube in a WHT post) so WHMCS is looking at a nice bump in revenue from 1 - 2 months from now.

Yes WHMCS works for us, but their attitude stinks. you place any support ticket with them and they will ALWAYS blame the user for issues even when you can prove the issue is on their part.
Also I was speaking on the phone with my contact at LP and they are not happy as they were not given any advance notice of the WHMCS decision to stop the distribution service.

also i reported a member for abusing me on their forums which WHMCS agreed and warned the user and told me to add that user to my ignore list which i did and now that same user is now a staff member of WHMCS, so it seems that if you want to be employed by WHMCS you have to abuse other forum members.

WHMCS is moving towards exclusivity from what I can see. While this may indeed boost their sales figures by good margins but closing down reseller channels means missing out on bulk orders. I do not see their motive of providing direct support matters here a lot as it is whmcs was directly providing support to licencepal customers as well.

closing down reseller channels

The are NOT closing down Reseller Channels.

WHMCS had 3 methods of providing Linences.

1) direct from WHMCS
2) through distributors ( these could sell external licences)
3) through resellers ( only allowed to sell internal licences)

they have discontinued point 2

so resellers are not effected so if your host is a WHMCS reseller they will still be allowed to provide WHMCS licences as always.

this WHMCS move is for one thing only and that is GREED (maximise profits)

Licensepal paid $7 for a WHMCS licence, so LP made $5 profit per licence, now you have to go direct to WHMCS, therefore WHMCS are going to take the profit on each of the moved over licences

For WHMCS to not have the "greed" look I think it would have been best for them to keep current licenses active but no longer offer new licenses to them. Would also be good for their customers who currently have a license with a distributor & wouldn't effect distributors so much such as LicensePal.
