Hello

For a site similar to myspace.com

Registered 30,000 profiles and for example 3,000 users logging in at same time in 1 hour.

Does a VPS 1 gb ram can handle it or i will have to use dedicated server?

Thanks in advance

Go for 2 dedicated server. One for database server and one for web server. SSD harddisk for database server is a good choice.

Yea you will need two or 3 servers, but it really depends on how optomized your site is and a heap of other factors. Best to start trying but im bit unsure why your asking you should already know if you are receiving that amount of traffic. If you are planning for it then just start of small and grow as your traffic does.

Try first with single server and just upgrade when needed or when the visitors peak up and the current server can't handle it anymore...

A quad core dedicated server with at least 8gb of memory should be able to handle that.

Two of them, one for http requests and one for the database would be much better though.

If it's within your budget, the two dedicated server configuration would be your best bet.

Gotta agree...do two servers, one web, one db. If aren't currently getting that kind of traffic, start with a single box and go from there.

Had to smile when I saw this question. No, a VPS with 1 gb of ram would not be able to handle it. Dedicated Servers? Absolutely! The best with your project. :D

I agree with everyone else. Dedicated is the way to go.

With traffic like that you should certainly be able to afford a dedicated server or 2.

What may your budget be? based on the info posted it seems like your site/application needs quite a bit of resources which may reflect on to a larger budget.

Dedicated servers could be definitely recommended and in the meanwhile attempt shrinking the graphics sizes used on your pages as even some minute points could sometimes play effective roles.

Dont forget to have multiple locations in play ;)

Personally I would do the following:

2x servers plus one database server in DC A
2x servers plus one database server in DC B (mirror copy of DC A's servers)
4x DNS servers in multiple locations (e.g 1x east coast, 1x west coast, 1x european and 1x asian).

This would provide you with good redundancy. The only main issue is data synchronization across the two locations.

Hello,

You should be switching over to dedicated server as a VPS having 1 gb ram may not handle this substantial load. I am recommending you as I have personally experienced the quality of dedicated servers.

Thanks

In my current opinion, i would start small and grow as your website does. You should research more into it and the website you are looking to open (due to asking this question) which is normal, because everyone starts from somewhere.

If your budget is sufficient:

- (1) Dedicated Server for HTTP requests.
- (1) Dedicated Server for your database.

- As "VPSSPEED.COM" said
4x DNS servers in multiple locations (e.g 1x east coast, 1x west coast, 1x european and 1x asian).
