At the end of the day you have to use the right tool for the job. Personally, I use Wordpress for a ton of stuff. Everything from mebership sites to one page business cards. Drupal can be a little cumbersome at first, but with anything, there's going to be a learning curve. Some of the ecommerce software that we use is integrated directly to Drupal so that makes things nice there.
From a client end of things, at least the majority of clients that we deal with, they prefer Wordpress as it's so similar to MS Word and easy to create posts & pages. Again, these are customers that are strictly looking at maintaining their site, not looking at design.
