What's your favorite travel destination?

I've lived in Okinawa (Japan), California, Florida, North Carolina, Hawaii and now Missouri - and traveled the world in the Marine Corps. My favorite travel destination continues to be Hawaii. The Caribbean is beautiful (spent a couple of months on Puerto Rico) - came back with a super tan. I'd love to hear others talk of their favorite destinations - and why it brings a smile.

For me, the culture of the Hawaiian Islands is what entices me to love planning trips there, and ultimately retire there. :)

What is it you love about France - the culture, the countryside, the people, the cities ? What would we love about France?

France, because nobody else did or will ever come close to the so-called French style in everything: architecture, taste, cuisine, country-side, language, etc. Everyone is talking about the how self-loving French people are as they think France is better than any other country in the world, but it is because it is (based on aforementioned factors). :)

How much time have you spent in France and are you fluent in the language? My Dad disliked France for some reason, so I grew up with preconceived notions. I've heard stories on both sides of the fence - I hate it - I love it - but I'm intriqued by the uniqueness of the country. Having never been there, I rely on others to tell me why they're so passionate one way or the other.

I have been around. I personally love Kentucky or North Carolina. I'm a true southern for sure that lives in the north. While I do love the country site and playing with off road vehicles or taking sports cars through the winding road I tend to get frustrated because when you need to be somewhere it is a long ways out. Its a catch 22.

My plans are to move to the suburbs of Raleigh in the next five years. I like the idea of being close to everything but close to nowhere at the same time. Plus, no winter would be great!

My wife is in love with Paris, ever since we went there, so based on that I can see how people could fall for French stuff. :)

I can't say I have a favorite destination myself.

10 days, but 10 minutes is usually enough to fall in love with the city of Paris. In fact I'd love to own an apartment there one day (if I EVER get there), but as I started to learn more about the taxation - its not that simple. Probably the worst countries to live in (from the tax system perspective). Not because taxes are high, but because they'd be watching you for a long time and then do a "random check" for the past 10 years or so. :)

While I don't speak the language, I am started to learn. My sister as well as my girlfriend are fluent. But then I live in Quebec, the French province of Canada and French is first language here. But their dialect is not French but Quebecois - its not as nice. :)

Favorite Cities.

Chicago
San Francisco
Toronto
Memphis
New Orleans
Suzhou
Shanghai
Phoenix
Havana

Love the US, Canada of course, Cuba, Guatemala (except Guatemala City), Cayman Islands, Costa Rica.

My next destination is either going to be Hawaii in December or perhaps a Southwest romp through the US.

I lived in Jacksonville, NC for a year (back in '72) - a little over 2 hours southeast of Raleigh - I remember I had rented a two bedroom apartment for $125, then moved to rental at a 3 bedroom home for $95/month. WOW !! That wouldn't rent me the garage today! We were close to the ocean, so that was great, but the scenery of the surrounding countryside was fantastic. A lot of pine trees - lots of deer.

My wife is in love with London, even though she's never been there. No doubt, it'll be one of our travel desinations coming up. :) I'm kind of intrigued now about France myself - and wouldn't mind spending a few days in Paris to see what the attraction is.

Have never been to China, Canada or Cuba - will probably make it to Canada, but I doubt I'll make it to China or Cuba. Been to Little Cuba in Miami - does that count? :) One of my uncles lived in Mountain View, CA (right outside of SF) so I got to spent about a week there before moving to Hawaii. San Francisco is so different than Southern California - much greener. My first experience with Chicago was going to factory training there - in the dead of winter with 9 foot of snow on the ground. I do love Chicago in the Summer. My last trip there was in 2001 - loved the lakefront.
