Whats Different.

I have always been told that Linux hosting is more secure. I am not sure if that's true or not or why it would be though. Although most Windows products have big security gaps so it wouldn't surprise me to have the same thing with their servers.

Exchange Server is great IMO, but other than that and the use of ASP I don't see any advantages of Windows.

Lets just say Linux is the better, smarter choice to host most websites, unless using features like mssql and ASP. ;)

My constant agony is the fact that my good friend is an ASP programmer and he hates PHP. So I end up reselling much more Windows hosting than I would like to.

Sometimes there has to be a trade off - Linux is preferred, but Windows is a solution for ASP. At least you have options. :)

Wouldn't recommend you going with windows. It's less secured, not that stable, always crushing and likes reinstall :). Linux servers can work forever.

My linux home server has been running for 3+ years.. If you don't know which is best for you then linux would be your best option.

Linux hosting is more secure

It's only as secure as you make it. I've seen a linux box being exploited right before my eyes.. wasn't really the fault of linux since the exploit went through a (free/opensource) php app installed there but still.. both linux and windows servers can and will be hacked by script kiddies in no time if you don't lock them down. :twocents:

A very good point - each platform has it's place, but both can be and are exploited every day. Both can be locked down to minimize problems.

I'm more of a fan of linux just because it seems easier to work with. Unless you have so many specifics, I would recommend Linux. It's doesn't seem as complex, and overall likes to run more efficient.
