As most of you know I do computer repair for a living at KI Technology Group out of East Lansing, MI
Well today my co-worker and I were swarmed with machines that needed to have viruses/spyware removed. About 9 machines in and 5 hours later, my friend is working on a Compaq 5000 in windows 98 se. He finds that one of the .ini files in the c:\windows directory is infected with the W32.Bagle.MN viruses. He boots up in safe mode and loads up MS-DOS. And goes to the c:\windows prompt. Now instead of doign "dir *.ini" he makes the fatal mistake of typing "del *.ini" which of course erases the wonderful world of windows and causes your machine to not boot.
Anyways... just thought it was a funny story and would pass it on to you guys here. This certainly doesn't happen to often in the computer professional environment... but it did today.
I have a screen shot of him typing this in which I saved prior to us rebooting and doing a reinstall over the top. I'll be sure to make a follow up post with that screen-shot just for shits and giggles.
