What makes Internet Explorer slower?

I have been experimenting with a bunch of different browsers for the past 2 months or so. I tried using Firefox, Apple Safari (for Win) and Google Chrome.

All of them did appear to be faster than Internet Explorer during my routine browsing. But a question that bugs me the most is: why?

Why is Internet Explorer slower than other browsers? What makes it underperform other applications in the speed category?

Good question, but really don't know.
Hope that other people will get you the answer..
But I think it should be something improtant script in the IE that microsoft can't ignore, if not why IE still be slow brwoser.
You just think that Microsoft no engineer to do the improvement..

You can tweak IE for Speeding up.

I am not sure of the answer myself and I have never really noticed it until recently when I started to use Chrome for just about any site I visit during the day. It does work pretty good considering how new it still is.

That is a great question that I ask myself. I don't think you should have to use a 'tweek' in order to speed up your IE. You didn't have to use a tweek with Mozilla, Opera, Sarfi and Chrome why should you have to with IE?

Exactly my point. A user shouldn't have to tweak anything in order to get a product that is as fast as next-in-line competitor.

This is one problem that I have never noticed with Explorer although I have heard others complain about it. I use IE as little as possible but its due to the security issues I have with it, not the speed.
