What is the most profitable business on the internet these days?

I think a lot of businesses on the net have lost their money, including hosting which is very hard to get into now, even hard for some to stay in.

But theres has to be something which is booming right now, doesnt there?
 
I would hope there is something but hosting for sure is not.. maybe hosting software, control panels, addons, etc.. Shell hosting companies are a bit easier to keep up I find..
 
eBay is cleaning up right now, as are the larger payment processors (ie paypal).

Some of the larger mp3 paid download sites are also doing well
 
pretty well actually - they are in a bit of a battle right now over what percentage they pay out to the various production/recording companies - but, this generally means theres a big pot they are fighting over :)

This depends. Shared web hosting is very hard to get in, make your name and do very well. There are the odd few that've started up and done very well, however not many. Although - I find that dedicated server hosting does very, very well. The only problem is finding capital to purchase the servers in the first place, however after the purchase of the servers - they are sold pretty quickly. Shame the capital breaks many pockets... :(

Yes, these are also doing well, however it depends. DirectAdmin is doing quite well, especially with their pricing, however lack of features keep their sales from expanding more and even out passing cPanel.



Each industry does well, yet in small corners. Not every web host will do well or even very well, not every control panel company will do well, not every company from any industry will do well; yet a small handful of companies from each handful will do well and are doing well.
As well as no company is really having a major boom, due to the fact nothing is "new". It's all old, done already and they are simply trying to improve it a tad where possible.
 
I would think online travel agencies are doing extremely well. My cousin who owns an online travel agency makes enough...when I say enough I mean it :) like in the millions :)

Yes, some are doing really well....

Not any new ones though :) - similar to the hosting industry I guess, plus the travel industry has really taken a hit the last few year...

ps - any chance of getting into your cousins will?? Id like a chilled retirement :)
 
Well I am in my cousins will :D...But it is hard work, even though he gets about 40 - 60 travel reservations every hour he works like a mad dog :)
 
WOW - now if I could get 40-60 hosting customers an hour, Id be one happy camper :)

Id probably be making a whole lot of travel arrangements with your cousin as well :)

I would say... The most profitable is a Payment Processor or a Web Script like Modernbill, just take a look $24.95 x 980 = $24,451 per MONTH :eek: , I also would say ev1Servers ;)

I have a Dream, It's a Stupid Dream but I would like to share :D

One Day I have Enought Money to Open a Small Datacenter on Mexico (Because I won't pay so much % to the Goverment of US :P) Close to texas, I start with 100Mbps from Cogent and with 30 Servers, then after a While, Some Asteroids come up and Destroy ev1Servers, The Planet, ServerBeach, Ezzi and leaving me as the Only Cheap Provider of Dedicated Servers with 700Gbs of Bandwith ~2Mbps, then in one Week I get More than 5,000 Servers from Internet Orders :D and I Expand the Network and I become the Largest D.Server Provider in the World :D

I really like the idea of a DC in mexico though - corona on the beach, with a wireless laptop, would be a great way to run a business :) Looking for a partner?

Thanks for sharing the info - Ill check out his site (especially since hes Canadian) - I'll look into booking my next trip with them as well - maybe after I am a customer, he would be willing to share some secrets - any advise from someone whos been successful canbe nothing but a good thing :)

Luckily Im a big dreamer, otherwise I wouldnt have started any sites or hosting, without dreams, where would any of us be ;)

Dreams are what keep people going I think, and I know that I have a dream to start a business which makes profit and its something I enjoy.

Maybe I can get some ideas here for a dream that can become reality ;)

Something I have been thinking about doing recently is a site for premium email accounts, but I dont know if there is really a market for that.

Everyone uses email, but would people really want to pay when they can get something like hotmail for free (even if nearly every combination of characters is taken ;))
