What hardware

All our hardware nodes run SuperMicro chassis and boards, xeon cpus, DDR3 ECC Ram, and Intel SSD drives. All hardware was purchased new and assembled at the datacenter. It has met and exceeded what we were expecting and at this point we have set a new bar in the VPS industry for performance. It took more than just having great hardware, we tortured servers for months continually tweeking them until we ended up with what we have now.

We also use SuperMicro servers.

Our standard config is Intel E3-1270 processors , 16GB ECC mem, WD RE4 drives in a RAID10 with adaptec raid controllers

But we are looking at the new Ivy bridge versions as they have been showing a 10%-15% performance increase over their sandybridge brothers.

Hi,

Dell servers are great for us so far. Also affordable.
You really have to look into the warranty they provide as business needs to be seen in a long term perspective. The longer the warranty the better as this will save you more money and headache once your machine start to spoil :)

Thanks!

Some is new, some is second hand.

We like our dells and supermicros, we have a few big spec ones (8 cores, 32GB ram) and some 4 core lower spec ones

We use only HP hardware for the servers. Which has been extremely reliable to date.

All our VPS nodes have a minimum of 8 cores 32 GB ram.

Storage is also HP

We're a Dell house so I really ought to enthusiastically agree with the posters supporting Dell, but the reality is that all of the professionally built servers (HP, Dell, IBM) are well put together and should last for years.

Supermicro are an interesting case, as it very much depends on who puts them together. The components are good, as plenty will attest to. And there are some excellent Supermicro server builders out there who will build product every bit as good as the big guys, but there are also some servers out there which are, how shall I say, less than optimal. Go with a recognised and recommended builder with a credible warranty and it should be fine, go with the cheapest and it's more of a gamble.
