Hi Friends,
I'm new to webhosting. I hosted a website few days back. I transferred files using FTP into HTTPDocs folder in the server and the page was visible when i specified the url in the browser. Suddenly, two days back, if I give the url , it is prompting for username and password. I don't know what went wrong and please guide and help me to resolve this issue. Thanks for your help in advance.

Sounds like you may have uploaded a .htaccess or .htpasswd file which was used previously with your other host and it had some password protection enabled on it.

Also, check with your host. Your host may have locked the site for some reason too - this is something we do here with script abuse to allow users accesss to their site to resolve the issue, but block other sites from accessing areas of the site.

May I know the URL which you are browsing? Once you provide it I can assist you further.

In such cases main reason is permission so kindly contact your hosting provider.

i think i can get it soooooooon

It should be a .htaccess file issue.
If you or any other administratot of the site have not configured the password protection, either by uploading a .htaccess file or using thecontrol panel for your account, check with your host.

Are you using Windows hosting or Linux hosting? If Windows hosting then there is no issue of .htacess file it is surely issue of permission.

Log in via FTP and rename any .htaccess file to .htaccess.old (or something different than just .htaccess) and the password protection will probably disappear.

This is as "thewebhostingdi" suggests only an issue with a Linux provider.
