Web nosting reviews: what sources are worth trusting today?

I’m curious how people evaluate web hosting companies these days, especially when it comes to reviews and third party sources.

The vast majority of “review” websites are really just affiliate lists in disguise. Same hosts show up over and over, same bullet points and zero evidence of direct service experience. Even when they claim to offer independent advise (top-tier media organizations are equally guilty of this), once you look a bit closer it’s all referral links and rankings that magically align with payouts.

What I’m trying to figure out is this: what sources do you personally trust when you want to scan real user feedback about a hosting company? Places where we can identify patterns about how a company handles outages, billing issues, support quality, or long term stability. Forums, communities, subreddits, review platforms (ex: TrustPilot?), anything that gives a more honest angle.

I’m especially interested in sources that are fair and accurate, and not driven by affiliate revenue.

Would love to build a short list of places that are actually worth paying attention to.

Well, personally, I check with my friends (Most of them just work in IT), but you can trust TrustPilot, they block reviews that seem suspicious to them, or when a reward is offered for a review.

But reviews are not always what will help you, and the best solution is to independently analyze where the locations are located, how quickly technical support responds, and whether the characteristics are normal for the requested price. You can conduct an experiment yourself and it will help you decide whether the service is suitable for you or not.

TrustPilot is the first choice and then I guess a normal search over the internet to see if they have any complaints, reviews on forums such this one would be another option

@Mivocloud @dkatsaris What do you guys think about hosting review sites in general? Are there any that you either trust or check in with?
Hi! No, for the most part I don't trust reviews and I think the best solution would be to check each hosting yourself. Check their reaction speed to messages, how they can help with server problems, etc.

Yeah, I agree most “review” sites feel heavily biased towards affiliates.

Personally, I tend to trust forums and communities more, especially places like Reddit or hosting forums where people share long-term experiences, not just first impressions. You can usually spot patterns there (downtime, support quality, billing issues) if multiple users mention the same thing.

Review platforms like Trustpilot can help, but I take them with caution since they can be manipulated. In general, I think combining multiple sources and looking for consistent feedback is the safest approach
