Web Hosting Talk Companies!!!!!!!!

WHT is a very different forum than HD. When you open threads to comments, unfortunately you open yourself to some responses you didn't expect - even if your only intent was to add value.

I noticed that most tutorial posts get some kind of discussion about this and that. Its just a nature of a community - you say something, someone else will want to say what they think about it.

But I do agree that it is not necessary to be negative about someone trying to help. You can correct or add value to the original post, but why call it useless or degrade it?

Artashes that's exactly what I think it two. Great minds think alike!:D
I was very upset about the whole situation but it was meant to happen in my mind.

After reading the thread it appears that WHT is dominated by old users. :uhh:
Well, I'm one of those old users too. :) There's a certain mindset to contributing value to any forum. I found Bob Burg's book, The Go Giver, to be an invaluable read - that relates to this and really, all industries and life in general.

Ok So I post up a article I made here and at WHT. I haven't read the one hear so hopefuly I didn't get any stupid comments but read that post and tell what you think.

I read the entire thread on WHT and do not find any stupid comment. Frankly I think you are being over-sensitive to others' comment - people are commenting but not attacking your post.

I mean... what do you expect? 3 pages of compliments just because you wrote a 200 words basic web host shopping guides? Grow up. ;)

I would say it was posted to create discussion, and perhaps have people add their own value to the thread.

Instead the big guns resort to immature slander to shoot down their budding competition.

Who needs to grow up?

Unfortunately, forums can and do foster a sense of one-upmanship that leads to exactly. Your tutorial was a bit of the generic kind, but there was no harm done in sharing what you thought was knowledge that needed to be shared.

For various reasons, certain communities foster this attitude over other communities. Unfortunately, WHT is so large that opinions are a dime a dozen, and it seems anyone will do anything to get that signature displayed.

I made a relatively neutral comment that cPanel is involved with more projects than DirectAdmin, and immediately it became an issue of cPanel vs DirectAdmin and I somehow had something against the latter by stating the obvious fact about a business plan. I guess that's just how it works now.

I think those visiting forums and posting comments should follow this great quote by Shakespeare;

“Conversation should be pleasant without scurrility, witty without affectation, free without indecency, learned without conceitedness, novel without falsehood” - William Shakespeare

Its my opinion theres no need for the negativity everywhere & gunning people in threads for ego. Very few people would be so brazen with their negative remarks if talking to the person in the flesh as opposed to on a computer - fact. So that they do it on forums I find particularly sad. I mean I feel quite sorry for these people.

For example is there any need for this kind of remark?

' There are tons of "how to choose" pages and articles around the web and yours don't say anything new. Sorry that I have to say this. Please do not offend. I'm not moralizing... however it is not the best practice to post threads on topics that are broadly discussed before .'

If you see a thread that is in your opinion below parr or been done to death theres no need to gun the person down, just dont say anything & move on. So many people are quick with their negative opinions because its the only kind of opinion they know how to express. We can all say what we dislike about stuff. But complementing someone on something we like or learning to keep negative opinions to yourself unless asked is something many adults lack.

'I was more pointing out to the fact that yes your article is helpful but it would only be helpful to those who are actually interested in reading it.'

Talk about stating the obvious! LOL sorry this remark made me LOOOL.

It's not a monopoly, but it is a very different type of forum. It is very popular - pretty much any time of the day, you'll see over 200 members and 1000+ guests - with lots of diversity - and some great in-depth threads. I see many of their members here and on other forums. Some of the trolling there goes over the top, but it's still a well moderated forum.
