Vehicle that gets 1,336 mpg

Yeah the Hydrogen cars really have a lot going for them but there were two issues that the makers would have to get over;

1) Refill Stations. There were issues with transporting large amounts of the fuel, and storage of the fuel. I don't remember the full details on it, but I remember seeing a report on tech-tv about it a year or so ago.

2) the word Hydrogen and the images that in conjurs up in the consumers mind. Hydrogen = nuclear bomb (or Hindenburg) in consumers mind, so there'll be a heck of a marketing campaign to get over that fear.

Personally, I like the idea. The concept for the hydrogen car has been around for well over a decade but putting a fusion device in the car just isn't practical or safe :) Would love to see forward progress on something like this though!

Can you imagine getting in an accident in something that weighs less than a lot of motorcycles on the road these days?

1336? They couldn't squeeze one more MPG out of that thing for 1337?? :)

lol HostDango. Also, Yeah the marketing capaign would be hard. But, I wouldnt mind having 1336 miles to the tank :P But, that would mean prices would be high to cover costs since people won't be filling up their tanks as fast they normally would with gas.

Also, It would suck to get into a car accident with that light car.

While these special cars are good for awareness purposes, I'm much more interested in seeing proposals for the replacement of current cars, proposals that are usable and affordable for the average individual out there, and that must include the many developing countries citizens. We've achieved little if the US and developed Europe start using clean cars, and the billions of Asians and poorer Europeans just buy their first fossil fuel based ones. We cannot afford a rerun of the old world development path, at 5-10 times the scale (accounting for the population involved). ;)

I drive by accidents, it seems, every single day of the week. Drivers here treat the Interstates like racetracks. In St. Louis, we have variable speed limits on I-270, which I could reasonably say 99% of drivers ignore. Dangerous is an understatement. I prefer having as much heavy metal between me and the next guy as I can, even if it means it costs more. We really do need to advance technology beyond fossil fuels though. I agree with ldcdc that we need a different model going forward.

I don't think this has to be a trade off situation.
The main thing is to get away from fossil fuels. We don't need to get 1100 plus miles to the gallon so why trade safety for gas mileage?
What we do need to do is find an alternate, renewable fuel that will power the larger vehicles we already have in production.

One of the right wing talking points when it comes to fuel mileage requirements being extended is that cars need to be lighter to get better mileage.

I say the money should be spent finding a fuel source that doesn't generate the pollution of fossil fuels instead. Then people could drive their tanks and not worry about environmental impact.
