Uploading files to Cpanel not working.

Sorry if this isn't the right section for this question.

I've uploaded two websites before in the past with no problems, I simply dumped the folder into public_html or www directory, or for my last one I uploaded it through dreamweaver.

I have created a new website, and my friend already had a host for it. The CPanel looked very outdated, I actually have to browse and upload each file separately.

I did this about 10 minutes ago, and still I can't view the website yet, it states "The page you are looking for is no longer located on this server. "

Should I wait a bit longer? is there another place to put my files? should I switch the domain name to a new host?

sorry for all the questions, i just want this to work!

You couldn't FTP into the account to upload the files? There's something wrong there, unless someone is intentionally disallowing access. Make sure that you have a proper index page and try accessing the pages directly (i.e. yourdomain.com/page1.html). Out of curiosity, what version of cPanel is it? It also might help if you post the domain name so that we can look at the error you're getting.

Good luck,

Also, in cPanel, you can upload a ZIP of the files, then in the file manager you can double click and it will unpack it for you.

I believe that was introduced in version 10 of cPanel.

you should also ask the hosting provider if your IP was blocked on their firewall - this can happen from time to time.

the result will be you cant ftp your files to the public_html folder.

If you have uploaded to the public_html folder, then the site pages should be pulling up fine. Are you sure that there are no index.html and index.php file existing in the public_html, and the site is displaying the wrong index file now? Try calling the domain as http://domainname.com/test.html after uploading a test file to the domain, you can find whether the domain is showing the correct page.

I have a page www.psc-limited.com/index.html and this come up

The page you are looking for is no longer located on this server.
This page replaces 404 (page not found) errors. We have added the links below for your convenience.
If you cannot find what you are looking for, try www.weboshawa.com or one of over 20 other directories created for the Greater Toronto Area.

Actually that come up with every section of my website. www.psc-limited.com/test.html went to their homepage, kind of...

by FTP you mean connect it through my dreamweaver to the site?

That URL seems to be using some sort of redirection service which displays a different site using frames (in an attempt to mask the true URL of the site).

You should make sure that you're using the correct nameservers and that your host has the DNS records set up appropriately.

I'm pretty sure the nameservers are correct, as the cpanel is the name /cpanel. Not quite sure how to check DNS though...

I know my friend purchased this a while ago(6 months), but seeing how I can log on, i would think everything is ok?

Looks like the nameservers are enom's (usually for their DNS service - which does provide that frame service I mentioned).

You need to get in touch with your host because they're probably redirecting you're site... and seeing as it goes to their domain selling page - they're probably trying to sell your domain. I'd talk to them about it. Just to verify, log into your cPanel and it should say somewhere (unless they're removed it) the IP of the server. The IP that traffic for your site is being sent to is: 69.64.157.16. My guess is the IP's don't match. Again, you'd need to talk to the host.

Thank you very much, I will get in contact with them. One quick question, can I transfer the DNS to a new host? or will I still have troubles?

As long as you have access with your registrar to login and change your nameservers (which you should...) you will have no problem. Any host you go to will tell you what nameservers to use. Or if you wish to use your own DNS, they can usually help you setting up your records properly.

I'm unfamiliar with nameservers(I assume thats where the server is that host my site), the new host says take their DNS number entries to your current registrar. Is that changing my nameserver? because I would be redirecting the DNS number to the new site?

thank you so much

edit: how did you figure he was re-directing the site using site frames?

Yes, your registrar sets the nameservers that you use. If you do a whois lookup on your domain name (www.whois.sc/psc-limited.com), it will show you your nameservers. You can use a site like www.network-tools.com to lookup your DNS entries. I find it interesting that your host doesn't just give you a few nameservers to use, because then you wouldn't have to manage the DNS yourself.

I figured out you were using frames by just viewing the source of the page that came up. I realized that if I clicked on any link, the URL in the address bar didn't change, so it had to be a frame. Viewing the source helped me prove myself right.

Hope this all helps - I know it can be confusing stuff.

Just a suggestion, you can try to upload your file through FileZilla application which provide your more easy way to manage your FTP in the server. This is a freeware which can be downloaded anywhere.

I talked to the host, and he kind of laughed it off, and changed it so it works now! thanks guys. Except for some reason Its not going to the index.html page first? (it used to be called main.html but i changed it, so maybe i have to delete the main page?)

Anyways its www.psc-limited.com which the Index of / which usually doesn't happen, my files are in my www/ folder, this hasn't happen to me before, is there something in cpanel I have to enable?

try renaming your Index.html page to index.html (lowercase "i"). Page names are typically case sensitive.

Or to maintain the link structure in your site, you can go into your cpanel and redirect index.html to Main.html.

make sure to upload to public_html folder,
or try to upload directly from you c-panel->File Manager
if the problem exists contact your host technical support
