From anyone's POV unlimited should not be true. Nothing in this world is unlimited other than renewable resources such as Wind, Water or Sun Light. Think of it as Oil or Natural gases.
They say its unlimited but really all the host have a lot of hard drives connected to each other and once they almost get full they add new drives. For unlimited you always have to add something else to it when its almost done being all used.

do you have an unlimited fuel tank on your car - i guess NO
do you purchase an unlimited carton of milk - i guess NO
does your PC/Laptop have an unlimited Hard Drive - i guess NO
reason is Unlimited does not exsist.

Only a truth in the eyes of the marketeer.
Other than that, it's purely misleading and the company is selling something they know they cannot supply without hidden T&C's.

It is clear that nothing is unlimited when dealing with hosting companies. If you read the terms of service, there are ways of getting around giving you unlimited hosting. For example, if your website becomes popular, and starts hogging all of the bandwidth from other sites on the shared host, they have the authority to take your site out.

Unlimited hosting on a whole isn't really possible and has been discussed here many times. Now when you're talking about Unlimited Hosting*, that's different. Notice the Asterisk? That means there's some sort of limitation associated with it. 
When you read through the TOS and AUP you'll usually find that there's provisions in there that really prevent the unlimited nature.
That said, there is UNMETERED, and we use that here ourselves. We don't track the bandwidth used by a client, but that doesn't mean that they can use as much as they want - there's always a limit. In that case, it's limited by the amount of throughput the port can put out. It's also limited by the CPU and Memory and how much it can allocate to sending the bandwidth. We then have limitations in our TOS that prevent excessive memory & CPU usage.
We do offer "unlimited email accounts" however. This implies that a person can set up as many as they want, and technically they can (until they run out of space). Each folder generates 4k-8k bytes. If you generate enough empty folders, you'll fill up your disk space and then you're limited by the amount of disk space you're allowed to use, or the number of inodes you can use on a given machine etc.

no matter what company you deal with their is nothing such as unlimited.
what you are saying that you may get an unlimted fuel tank in a Ford but not in a GM
or Dell will fit an unlimited HDD in their computers but hewlett packard dont.
some companies will use unlimited as a marketing gimmick as this is all it is.

It's just a marketing slogan as nothing is possible practically unlimited. Generally they declare it by guessing clients maximum requirements of particular resources.
