ThePlanet down again

Hey,
ThePlanet DC had their whole network down today.
I think it has happened 3 times in the last week now.
I still don't know what is wrong, HR is hosted in TP and I thought it was a problem with the server at first, but it ended up being because of TP network.

Their overall service seems to be getting a slating at the minute, and they have just raised the prices

Wow, you should move to another Datacenter with better prices and better network. I know that TP is realiable though :) Just giving you some fresh Ideas :)

TP normally has a very reliable network so I don't thinka few problems should be reason to move, moving would probably end up causing more problems than it's worth and it isn't something I am thinking about doing.

Overall I am happy with the network but it has had problems in the last week.
They were blaming sprint for the problems, although I don't see how they can blame any one provider when they have multiple connections that should take over when a connection goes down.

TOPIC: Network Event Report

DATE: June 7, 2004

SUMMARY: The DLLSTX2 datacenter lost connectivity this afternoon for approximately 2
minutes as a result of problems with the DWDM fiber system connecting it to the
DLLSTX3 datacenter. Planet engineers have isolated the problem as being related to
water peak loss in the 1310-1350nm wavelengths across the dark fiber between the
sites.

FUTURE MITIGATION: In order to prevent future issues, Planet engineering are
currently working on a plan to move the Gig-E channels in the affected wavelengths
to new channels in an alternate (non water-peak) wavelength on the system, and
anticipates having this plan finalized shortly. Planet engineering will notify all
customers if there is any anticipated downtime as a result of the repair work.

It could be actual water...
I don't know at all, but just thinking since waves travel better (Electrical, frequency and other types) than through air

This is the 2nd outage I can recall them having. 2 in 6 months really aint that bad (been a customer of theres for 6 months). I haven't done any looking on this but this is probably their second outage in 2 years.

They have been down 3 times I think in the last week.
They have had a lot of problems with the network going very slow also.
Quite a lot of problems with the network, take a look in the network section of the SM forum :)

A lot of customers complaining there when the network is having problems.

Yes I know they were down at least twice this week John, overall they are still good but have to say glad I got out when i did, the first outage was at the beginning of the month right after I transferred everyone and then 2 this week. They do have the DC in a pretty bad area in the states for summer storms but hey in the US you never know where nature is going to strike anymore.

Wow, you should move to another Datacenter with better prices and better network.
Cheaper doesn't mean better. The less you pay, the less likely you are to have good quality. True, there are places better than ThePlanet, however it's going to cost John a lot more than what he probably pays.

Web hosting costs a lot more than the average joe thinks. It is a lot of work, and today time costs a lot - good quality bandwidth also costs a lot. All these prices add up.

More expensive doesn't always mean better, however a lot of the time it does.
