The new module was initially announced in March, 2007. As stated in the previous announcement, R1Soft becomes the first to offer such a data protection product for MySQL databases, which generally store transaction-based data that changes frequently. The module is available as a premium add-on to R1Soft's flagship CDP Server product, providing data protection on both Linux and Windows platforms. Features of the module include the ability to execute Bare-Metal restorations for an entire MySQL Server, as well as the ability to back up busy MySQL Servers without interruptions. The module also provides an easy to use Web interface, designed for both server administrators and end users.
R1Soft's CDP products diverge significantly from traditional backup technologies, which essentially copy files at intervals from hard disks to another medium, such as a tape drive. The methods only provide data protection on a daily or weekly basis, resulting in large losses of data in the event of a disaster.
