San Diego, California - (The Hosting News) - June 4, 2007 - Search engine, Earthle.com, created as ''a black screen version of Google,'' has been developed to save energy, in which Internet users may save an estimated 750 Megawatt-hours of energy through its use.
Earthle uses Google search results, so when a user searches using Earthle, the same organic results are returned as if they had used Google. Using Earthle to search will not affect the results to which Google users are accustomed.

Mark Ontkush, a ''Green Computing'' expert, calculated the following:
- CTR Monitors use 74 watts to display and all white page, while an all black page only 59 watts a savings of 15 watts per page.
- Google gets about 200 Million queries a day
- Assume each query is displayed for about 10 seconds which means Google is running for about 550,000 hours each day around the world.
- global savings of 8.3 Megawatt-hours per day, or about 3000 Megawatt-hours a year.
- 25% of world monitors are CTR so a savings of 750 Megawatt-hours a Year.
