[Thehostingnews] Dedicated Hosting Solution Firm, SoftLayer, Upgrades with Google Analytics
Dallas, Texas - (The Hosting News) - October 2, 2007 -
On-demand, dedicated hosting firm, SoftLayer, has unveiled a new partnership with Actual Metrics, to provide Urchin by Google Analytics to all customers, to provide enterprise-grade website analysis software for webmasters.
The solution is priced at $5 per month per server, with statistics that detail server and website usage statistics. Matt Chilek, Vice President of Development at SoftLayer explained, ''Site administrators gain invaluable insight from observing and tracking how users are engaging with their site. Urchin provides that level of transparency. We're glad to have it as part of our arsenal for providing SoftLayer customers a level of service and convenience they won't find anywhere else.''
Urchin provides statistics on a number of website usage activities, including how visitors reach a site, where they go and what they do within the site, from which page they leave the site, and when they return. The software works with Windows, Linux and BSD and requires only a 20MB footprint. It is also highly scalable: a single installation can monitor a single site with few pageviews or hundreds of load-balanced sites with millions of pageviews.
The software can also use the information it collects to measure the short- and long-term effectiveness of a website's online marketing campaign, content, and e-commerce initiatives. Mr. Chilek continued, ''Urchin arms our customers to improve their site design, how they're driving site traffic and even streamline their own development and operations.''
SoftLayer's pricing strategy for Urchin further separates the hosting company from its competitors. Mr. Chilek added, ''Everybody else charges for each feature; we're putting them all together, and for one exceptionally low price. We want all of our customers to be able to experience all the benefits of this product.''
In June, SoftLayer debuted its Open API solution, designed to control all facets of the dedicated hosting environment. The beta release of the API will include the six most used features found in the current customer portal, with a SOAP interface. Due to the wide range of uses for the SoftLayer Open API, the company's developers have created several plug-ins for use with server control panels like cPanel, Plesk, and Helm. This integration of features allows for end users to control their most popular features from inside the dedicated server. Customers utilizing virtualization software such as Virtuozzo and VMWare will be able to integrate features into the third-party applications allowing both physical control and virtual control. Additionally, users can physically and virtually reboot servers from the same interface with easy-to-install plug-ins. Resellers may seek to incorporate features into their portals while corporations will integrate features into their own intranets.
To support the API integration, the company has launched the SoftLayer Developer Network (SLDN). The site is dedicated to assisting developers and distributing information and documentation for the API. The SoftLayer development team will lead blogs and forums dedicated to helping developers integrate the API.
Located in the INFOMART in Dallas, Texas, SoftLayer was formed in June 2005 by a team of industry executives seeking to deliver low cost next generation on-demand hosting services for the small to medium enterprise (SME). Utilizing proprietary software, coupled with the industry's first network-within-a-network topology, the company delivers the power and control to securely manage IT environments while providing unparalleled scalability.
With the largest index of websites available on the World Wide Web and the industry's most advanced search technology, Google Inc. delivers the fastest and easiest way to find relevant information on the Internet. Google's technological innovations have earned the company numerous industry awards and citations, including two Webby Awards; two WIRED magazine Readers Raves Awards; Best Internet Innovation and Technical Excellence Award from PC Magazine; Best Search Engine on the Internet from Yahoo! Internet Life; Top Ten Best Cybertech from TIME magazine; and Editor's Pick from CNET. A growing number of companies worldwide, including Yahoo! and its international properties, Sony Corporation and its global affiliates, AOL/Netscape, and Cisco Systems, rely on Google to power search on their websites. A privately held company based in Mountain View, Calif., Google's investors include Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers and Sequoia Capital.
