Sub-domain hosting on a different server?

I was just wondering whether it is at all possible to serve sub-domain content (for example: SOMETHING.hostingdiscussion.com) on a different account/server?

If yes, how is that achieved technically? If anyone has any experience/tips to share, please do! I would really appreciate any insights.

Yes, what you would do is set the subdomain up on the server you want to host it on, and then go to the server that is hosting the main domain and set an A record up to point to the subdomain to the server it is being hosted on.

Thanks for your quick reply. It sounds a bit complicated, but very promising!

What is an A record? :D

That is possible. Because that is separate and independebce domain name as any other. Just do correct settings for the DNS

You'll need to set up a DNS Record for it. Then you'll need to point it to the sub-domain you have the hosting on. Then it should work. FYI : Godaddy's hosting is terrible, and it's easy to set up anywhere.

I used Godaddy for years for hosting. There big problem seems to be with DNS records. When I moved servers to control my own DNS we had no problem at all pointing sub domain names at all to any server. It's a walk in the park and as long as you control your own DNS records. It's Great and doesn't matter who your domain registrar is.
