SOPA making big news as GoDaddy throws their hat in the ring!

Have you been following twitter and the backlash to GoDaddy regarding their support to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA)? Lots of people are mad once again at GoDaddy, heck even Google doesn't support the act!

Anyone have any thoughts regarding it? I'm all for copyright protection, but I'm not sure the SOPA is a good choice. If anything, it'll leave search engines and web hosting companies liable for the actions of their users/clients. I think the DMCA works just fine as it is, SOPA could potentially take down internet businesses quickly and face legal action within days due to the way it's currently written.

I see it as you do. They should just leave everything as DMCAs, Bringing on the SOPA act isn't going to help out anyone and could potentially take down internet businesses quickly as you stated.

Everyone with a site will be liable for the actions their users or clients use for sure.

Just read where GoDaddy has recanted their support for SOPA.

I can believe that godaddy has withdrawn their support. I have heard that they were losing accounts by the thousands. I don't know if the announcement that they are retracting support will stop the exodus. I would think that at this point they are on board with the more common public opinion so that they don't comprise their earnings.

GoDaddy has always been a company that has been chasing headlines. I am not surprised they are yet again acting all chaotic about it.

I don't like SOPA. I don't understand why is it always either all or nothing in the United States. There are ways of dealing with intellectual property, which can be stricken, but not to this degree.

Godaddy loses thousands of clients as i saw in an article recently with this.

I saw an article as well, but it also said they gained more clients in the same period than they lost. Yet everyone is focused only on the clients lost. :rolleyes2

Either way, SOPA = Bad idea :crash:

I've heard about SOPA for a while now but have never heard about a date or approximate date of it will be decided if the act is going ahead. Does anyone know of a date?
