So who started HD?

The story is way more complicated than that. I do not know who started HD, but before Jose, there was at least one more owner, who took the forum offline for a few months. Somewhere early in the game (2001-2002), HostingDiscussion.com owner (back there with a different name) merged/acquired a couple of smaller hosting forums, one of which was managed by Chris (RochenHost founder) I believe.

After Jose's arrival (around 400-member mark), the forum finally got some consistency to its operations. The name HostingDiscussion was introduced, I returned as a moderator and we took if off the ground. Unfortunately other responsibilities kept Jose away a lot and he decided to sell the forum when we were at 1200-member mark.

It gives you a little history, although still doesn't answer the question about who started the forum. It was more a collaboration between a couple of people who owned hosting forums.

Best,

That's common for all forum startups. It takes incredible amount of time and work to run a well behaved and respectable forum. It takes the same huge amount of time to grow a forum. And when you have 50-100 members, it is NOT fun work. Have you ever asked why only few forums make it and so many forums get closed down? Patience. People get fed up, people quit, people sell out because most are not used to hard daily work and think that popularity and awareness comes from nothing.

That's why whoever the owner of this forum was in the very early stages of HD life, he managed to buy out small but promising startup forums.

I remember one time when I had some kid complaining to me daily over MSN that his 17-member forum doesn't grow and how everything is bad. Well, success doesn't come overnight, you have to work for it. I've been mentoring the poor guy for good 5 months by giving advice, making corrections, after which he shut down his forum. Too much work, he said.

Best,

Thats a great story for a fine forum. Is Blue the co-owner as well or just part of the staff?

Staff is a bit misleading, in the sense that it's a voluntary position.
The community advisor postition is just that. We don't moderate or edit the forums in any way. We just make suggestions to the powers that be (aka Artashes)
