Skunk in my house!

I come home and there it is - the wonderful skunk odor all over the place. My siblings tell me there is a lost skunk in our house and I have to find it...

*Artashes runs away.* :smash:

Send me a bottle of air from your home. We don't have skunks here, so I have no idea how bad is their smell. :D

Don't do something you'll regret, Dan

All I can say Art is...uh....good luck with that! ;) It seems like a lot of critters are attracted to your house. I remember a thread a while ago with some really funky bugs....that was scary.

I hate skunks. We have them running around in our background all the time.... they spray my cat about once every month or so and it takes a month for the smell to go away..

The odor is leaving? I thought it was near impossible to get that out.
With every single window in my house open and 4 cans of air re-freshener its working. Can't say the whole thing is out yet, but its close.

Heh, don't ask me why, but both my wife and daughter love the smell of skunk. When they're driving down the road where some skunk was hit by a car, they roll down all the windows to take it all in. :crazy2:

Find a bottle of beer thats gone bad before its been opened ... they call it "skunky beer" and with the smell I can see why. Not quite as bad as a skunk but in my book it runs a close second.

Glad you were able to evict the skunk Art. Do you live in the country like me?

I get lots of different critters in my yard ... but luckily, even though they all like to look in the windows at times, I haven't had a problem with them getting in the house :)

I saw a 'possum the other morning just walking around the outside of the house. Never saw one of those before. And this winter I have had a family of 3 deer come meandering through the yard quite regularly ... a couple wolves that just sat outside the sunporch watching me (I think I might have gotten nervous about them if I saw them licking their lips :) ) ... and various & sundry other smaller critters.

I love living in the country :)

Ohhh yeah ... Art ... one thing you might try is mixing up a strong mixture of vinegar & water ... or lemon juice & water ... and boiling it on the stove in an open pot until most of its evaporated. You might have to do it a couple times a day for a few days ... but it really helps eliminate smells that seem to cling to everything. The house will smell like you've been making pickles for a bit ... but its better than skunk :)

Take care ... good luck
Peter

Vito, you almost killed me there! :D

Peter, no I live in the city. However, Montreal (Westmount is the name of the area I live in) is such a clean city that we have all kinds of animals running around from squirrels to skunks, from raccoons to neighbor's cats.

I've never had a skunk in my house, but there are some around here. My cats often get into fights with them and then come inside the house. :-/ almost as bad...

Thank you Peter for the tip. :D

Kinda like someone overzealously spraying underarm deodorant, hoping to cover up the fact that he hasn't showered in a week... :uhh:

Skunks do however make good pets (de-scented of course). Back when I lived in Florida I picked up a "fixed" skunk from an exotic pet store. Was a great little pet.

Actually ... boiling vinegar or lemon juice act as more of an odor neutralizer and is more effective than the stuff thats advertised in retail stores. Have to admit ... the smell is rather potent for a number of hours or a day ... but the "bad odors" are usually gone after one "treatment" around here.

A friend had a skunk invade his house and he boiled the vinegar and it took care of the smell. Mind you ... although the skunk did spray in the house ... the spray was just "in the air" and did not hit any furniture or anything.

Thats my experience anyway
