Sitemap Submission to Google

I was reading about Google PR the other day and how it may not be able to read your site map properly so you want to submit one. Is this just an obvious ploy by Google to get us to do the work for them or do they really miss portions of sites due to site map errors?

We submitted our sitemap, and have found that it works out pretty well.

You just have to make sure there are no broken links, etc

Besides the actual submitting of URL's to google, you can also specify their update frequency to force google to index pages more frequently than others.

The sitemap is a very efficient tool in at least making sure that news articles or any other frequently updated content is properly updated with google.

Not really Google's work

When the OP said that this may be a ploy getting us to do Google's work, only one thing came to mind. Getting your site indexed is not a benefit to Google, it's a benefit to you. It is in your best interest to have Google be able to find and index as much of your site as possible. Sitemaps are one very useful tool in assuring that your website gets indexed correctly.

Yes it benefits me, but since my curent site (a blog) really only has one url to it (although several pages long at this point) it makes me wonder. Obviously having my site indexed properly is in my best interest, but it seems every answer to how to get indexed quicker, better or boost PR is answered by submitting a sitemap. But a one page site really doesn't need a site map...you see what I'm saying?

I wanted to learn how to put google sitemap on my website, can you teach me how?

I would appreciate it very much :)

sitemap are a easy tool so google can find you easier, if you have a flash intro and google can't pass it, you're site wouldn't be index..
there are a lot of document, sitemap generators just go google it :)

I'm yet to submit a sitemap, but I can tell you it really makes a difference in your appearance on google.

You can go to xml-sitemaps.com and create a Google sitemap for free.. Once you create it (.xml extension) just uploaded to your server and you should be good to go...

Go to your Google Webmasters account and upload there as well... Pretty easy...
