Sitcoms are they degrading?

The 80's was all about Music such as Top of the Pops.
The 90's was all about Sitcoms such as Home Improvement.
and now in the 21st Century it to me seems all about Reality Tv such as Big Brother.

Are there any Sitcoms still on air that are actually good?

Good notice. I find that there are considerably less sitcoms than there were in the 90s.
I think they now take format of comedy series, and there are always few to choose from.

My personal favorites are Scrubs, The Office and The Trailer Park Boys (last one is actually a mocumentary).

Scrubs. Oh yes probably one of the last vetran Sitcoms around.

The problem with television whether it is a Drama, Sitcom or whatever it will eventually loop around. And possibly in 50 years time there would be another 'Friends'.

However shows like LOST, Desperate Housewives are just pointless shows and even though they may have won Emmy's they won't become a vetran show.

At the same time you have the everlasting Soaps we have Eastenders which has lasted 21 years and Corrie which will be on air for 46 years in December.

How interesting is this article which just popped up:

TV executive Kevin Bright has criticised current US comedy shows, claiming they lack originality.

The former Friends executive producer has recently decided to teach a course on how to direct sitcoms as he is becoming more disheartened by the latest output.

"We're in a bad place," he said. "Since Will and Grace I haven't seen one original idea on network TV."

Talking of his own career, Bright added: "I still have an agent. I've still been getting scripts. But I'm going to be very particular about my next project. I'm in a very blessed place. I can work, or not."
