Should I use 301 redirect for Joomla Website?

Hello guys,

I have the following case. A client interested in revamping the layout of his site developed in Joomla. The site in question appears on the first page by doing a search for the main keyword related to the company's niche, and because of that the customer is getting a lot of feedback. Initially I thought of developing a new website using the WordPress, then changed my mind and decided to keep Joomla, because that way I only need to create a new template. After analysis it occurs that the URL's are not friendly, so decided to make changes accordingly but not sure if it will help in improving the rankings or will have a bad effect?

If your URLs are being changed after revamping, make sure that you set 301 redirection for your existing URLs. This will tell search engine bots to crawl new URL instead old URL. This was you can retain your existing rank and traffic.

If you do not set 301 redirection, you will see the traffic drop as well as your new pages will take some time to appear in search result.
