My buddy and I have been wondering if a shell intergrated control panel that will control every aspect of a users webhosting would be good or if it would be best to make it online?

Do you mean a little panel they would get when they SSH to their account?

If so.. what would it control? Subdomains? POP3s? DNS? etc..

And.. why? Why not use cPanel/Plesk/Ensim/Direct Admin.. something like that?
 
Yes, Something along the lines of that. They would have to run it upon login to there SSH box but i think it'd be more secure because the information is staying local the program will have no access to the internet.

It would control sub, pop3,smtp,dns, vhost, alises. But without the vuln. of being on the web just waiting for the user to login they would have to login via the SSH and then login to the box with some other sort of verification (undecided as of yet).
 
Oh i forgot we don't wanna use those because we don't want the limits that are specified by the programmers of said panels, we would rather have our own limits to set as to wot the program can do and it's a good way to get Prynix out there :)
 
Oh I understand.. yes seems more secure to do it this way.. also it would save alot of space that installing a control panel would take up.. good luck with it :)
 
Sounds like a good idea but it would mean if you are going to let account owners use this they would all have to have SSH access which could be risky.

It might not be suited for newbies also, I think it might end up being a bit advanced as most people dont even know what SSH is.

A ggood advantage is the amount you would be saving if you were going to use this on a lot of servers instead of buying a license for cPanel, Ensim etc.

I think its a very good idea and if you are going to do it please keep us informed, Im very interested in it myself
 
Hi there. I am one of the people who will be programming this. Im going to be developing the Shell Integrated Control Panel in BBX. I am thinking about making a control panel for users (What cPANEL Does). Also a security panel that controls a bunch of imported programs(Just like webmin, but based on security). Also a server administration panel that will do all the stuff listed above + more. I will be glad to keep all of you up to date during our progress of this project. Ill get back with you later, or if you have any questions..feel free to post.
 
We have no ideal of when we will be releasing screenshots and such to the public. The development however has not started yet, and will not start until we setup our servers with the correct operating systems to program this in BBX. After I get done with that, I will be sure to let the public know that we have accomplished that and will be moving on towards programming. Thanks to everyone who is insterested and/or posting ideals and comments.

Any idea of when you will have the servers setup fully so you can start the coding?
 
Well. Im hoping I can get it to be based for most *nix operating systems and winblowz. Right now, it will only work with Redhat* and Unix SCO.

Can anyone hit me up with some ideas about the winblowz version of the integrated shell. I just thought about it and may make more money from the companys that use windows.. Thanks.

Oh.. I am not exactly sure about when I can get the systems fully up with BBX. This weekend I got company coming down. Party Hardy..eh. Though, im thinking I may be able to get some of this up on sunday or monday. I will be sure to keep our progress in these forums till I get a chance to setup us a website to post our work on.
