Maria is only 17, I loved it how she beat all top players and won the title away from Williams 6-1 6-4. What a career this girl is going to have!

Her last two wins were amazing. A little lucky with the rain delay in the Davenport match but she proved she belongs there with the crushing of Williams.

The Russians ARE really proud, but I wouldn't call it a total surprise. The girl knows how to serve, how to hold powerful rallies on the back and how to hit a winner. She is a smart player and one of the best players in Russia. Especially considering she was one of two Russian ladies who played the final of the French Open this year, but lost to another Russian Myskina. It was all-Russian final for the ladies and all-Argentinian final for men.
