Just avoid these guys. They say they manage a server for you, but they don't even know what their doing. My server goes down and I suppose one of my resellers reported it to them, but they wouldn't check WHY the server was down. In the past, I've had 2 hard drive failures and one of those times, my clients and myself lost most of our data. Basically anything we had backed up was the only thing we could restore. It took them 2 weeks to install/repair and get the server running again. My site, as well as my members was offline for 2 weeks. We lost many members and some people lost TONS of adsense revenue, they've could have earned in those two final weeks.

The prices for the servers are quite cheap, then again I know why know. 2 Hard drive failures, so what do you really expect. They probably use cheap quality parts.

Anyways I'm just warning people of these guys. I've moved on now, but just watch out and don't get suckered into their tacky deals. They like to sweet talk you into custom packages and then once they have you on their servers, they basically own you. It took me awhile to transfer and move all my customers and data out of there.

Worst nightmare ever! :disagree:

First of all, a quick correction: it's server4sale.com (small typo).

Second, if I recall correctly they are resellers. They used to resell BurstNet servers but now it seems like they are reselling LayeredTech and SoftLayer servers. Now my question is: why buy from a reseller if you can buy the same servers on the same network directly from the datacenter? Because it's "managed"? There are tons of good companies out there who can manage your server, such as Rack911 and SeeksAdmin.

A friend (and business partner) of mine used to host servers at Server4Sale, he told me a couple of times when resellers tried to contact S4S regarding downtimes, they ignore it because they only communicate with the client directly. Might be the reason why they did not want to check why the server was down...

Also, in case S4S is a reseller, they can't control "hardware failures". In fact hardware failures can occur at any time and in most cases the company hosting the server can't prevent it... It's your job to protect yourself against data loss caused by hardware failures: there's RAID, there's NAS for backups, and there's a combination of both. ;) If you would have gotten the server from SoftLayer directly, they would have repaired your server within 4 hours (or something) because if it takes longer than that, their SLA says you can get a (partial) refund. I also recall from reviews that SoftLayer is good at recovering data from crashed hard drives.

So basically here's what you've learned:
- When something is cheap, there's ALWAYS a catch.
- Always make sure your servers are redundant (RAID, etc) or that you at least store backups on NAS.
- Buying products/services from resellers has lots of disadvantages.
- When a company or website says "managed" always search the web for reviews to make sure what kind of "managed" they're talking about.

Hope that helps ;)

Since you mention S4S and "Cheap" clearly your server was at LayeredTech's data center. Sorry about your experience but you get what you pay for sometimes.
