Server Prices Increasing

One place that I have a VPS account has just increase price increases of approximately 20%. The USD is weak right now, and there are increases in costs for things like power.

You think we can expect to see increases across the board soon?

It is possible you may see some companies increasing their price to remain in business but I don't think it will be something across the board. Best bet for a company to not increase prices is to offer more services to balance out any one service that isn't doing quite well to ride the turbulent times.

I don't think we will see any wholesale changes in pricing.

Costs in some areas are increasing but they are decreasing in others. Technology keeps getting cheaper and it offsets the energy costs.

If you are facing a 20% increase in pricing I would have to say that the company is just using this economy as an excuse to gouge.

There are still good deals to be found. Everything does go up. We just saw an increase in domain pricing do to ICANN. We had to raise our pricing on domains because if it.

I think small players give way to big players. And also the price cutting stops. There may not be increase, but there may not be price cutting also. Most hosts may offer value added services.

It seems that price increase was caused by other reason then weak USD.
USD is not the reason of the price increasing.
BTW have you contacted your web host and ask for the reason?

The dollar being weak would actually have no part in the rising of the cost, as since this is a globalized business, if the dollar weakens that actually drives more international business to the US as it makes it more cost affordable for buyers to choose US hosting companies. Plus because of the current financial crisis, the cost of energy is dropping greatly. In my honest opinion, unless they made some bad decisions that cost them money and they are trying to displace the expense, they are most likely gauging, I would seek out another hosting provider.

I dont think the dolloar will have much to do with it, I think the econamy itself will have a bigger play. People trying to get more business at what ever costs, deals etc... You might see general price increase and then see sales that pretty much put it back to where its at now

Price for servers are already increased 1 years ago, if the usd devise came more stronger, you will find a lot of nice deal.

That's because of the controversial understanding that allows Verisign to up the price 7% each year. It's got nothing to do with current economic issues.

These are my thoughts on a lot of price changes at the moment. It just seems like everyone is jumping on the bandwagon saying the cost of this has gone up so we had to do it too when actually, they don't need to.

The economical crisis will change a lot in the world including the hosting industry. My hope is that only honest sellers will survive, this crisis might even be a sectoral cleanup opportunity.

Im not sure weather the prices of servers are increasing, they are actually facing a dip,VPS and dedicated website hosting solutions have been cheaping out considerably over the past few months.
maby you just need to change your Host.

I would look around at other servers and compare the costs/benefits of each one. If it is truly due to the reasons they are giving you, you should see the same thing happening with other companies. Honestly, if it was the cost of energy supply driving the increase, it would have happened six months ago when it was at its worst, not now that it is dropping like a stone.

Some companies do increase their prices. But I believe once you are a started customer on a plan the rate you pay is the rate is should stay.
