SEO tutorials

For a newbie like myself, I'd say they are highly effective. I don't know how much new information you could pull from an SEO tutorial if you're already familiar with most SEO techniques, though.
 
SEO Tutorials can be good, if you can find good ones. Keep in mind that the world of SEO is constantly changing. Forget about buying books on it, it takes a minimum of 6 months to be published and by that stage, some information can be out of date.

When it comes to reviewing anything online, check the date. Also, when someone says "a good trick is" - just close the site and forget about them. True SEO is not a trick. Anyone who discusses tricking the search engine to get results is likely using outdated information.

Check out linda.com, there's a decent tutorial on there from HighRankings.com (check out their site too). The information is pure old-school information, but it's the information that has remained constant since the start of search engines.

SEO is good, because this helps search engines get the right information in your website. But ofcourse there are many things you can do to market you website.

1. Use google adwords
2. Facebook ads
3. Use forums
4. Create content (free) for users
5. Give flyers to your locale area.
6. Partner with other companies
7. Advertise in TV/Radio/Newspaper
8. Create Facebook/Twitter Account for Social Activity.

And most of all whats important is being consistent in promoting your website. Consistency and Content is the key.
 
As long as you are keeping up with the changes and being able to stay on a good path to find recent and legit sources they could be great. Now when you get into putting all of your eggs in one basket and rely solely on one handout (maybe written a decade ago), expect little to no help when it comes to getting those people to your site.
