Hello!

I am to find a semi dedicated account for the large and resource consuming site.

While looking for I have met an attarctive solution form cirtexhosting.com who charge 36 dollars monthly and this price seems to be the lowest I saw.

I need to know if the price is really good considering the offered specs, and if there is anytrhing better or comparable.

Thank you.

All depends on what you're getting. For the most part, many hosting companies offer Semi-Dedicated hosting. In a sense, Shared Hosting is Semi-Dedicated (only you're sharing with a few hundred people).

Semi-Dedicated can be anywhere from 2 accoutns to whatever the hosting company decides. For us, we run 8 and 16 Semi-Dedicated accounts - generally on eCommerce for optimal speeds etc.

What specs are you getting from the company? What type of server are they running, how many others on the server, what is the load like on the machine? Just becuase there's only 8 people on a machine, if one guy is taking 95% of the resources, and you're left with 5%, Semi-Dedicated still doesn't help.

What info are they giving you in order to show that you're getting equal share, and/or any reports?

I think the price is good considering their specs, however you started this by saying you needed hosting for a large and resource consuming site - do the specs of this specific plan meet your requirements? On a side note - that price is for a two year contract.

I would also check their TOS and any service limitations to see if your large and resource consuming site fits in these specs.

If you want to blindly compare just on price

Thing is that buying semi-dedicated on price is, as we say in my country, like stealing your own hat. The less you pay, the less you're likely to receive. $30 "semi-dedicated" hosting will only be marginally better than a $30 shared hosting account, because, at the end of the day, it is still just shared hosting.

I think what you mean by semi-dedicated is a virtual private server, i.e. you still share a server but with fewer accounts on that server, am I correct?

For a little more you could go get a dedicated server for $50 and be all by yourself and no one would ever tell you what you can or can't do.

In GENERAL cases, a true dedicated server will be better than a VPS or a Semi-Dedicated server (depending on resources provided of course).

Will $50 be enough? No telling - the actual details of the resources were not provided. So working from a GENERAL perspective, it should be comparable if not better.

It's like someone saying they need a truck to move a boat.. GENERALLY speaking an F250 or 2500 should be able to pull most boats. Now if the person then divulges that the boat is actually a 75' Catamaran - well then EVERYTHING changes ;)

Only given SOME of the information means that only SOME of the answers can be provided, and in a very general form at that.

Exactly ... It's hard to give advice based on generalities. Large and resource consuming can mean different things to different people. A semi-dedicated account with 8 users on one server may fit his needs, or it may not. The Cirtex plan may work for him, or may not. :D

Semi-dedicated server is still under the shared hosting environment with lesser hosting accounts per server. On the other hand, VPS is something like each virtual server inside the dedicated server. Please note that the VPS user can remotely do the root access.
