If you have registered a desirable domain name and don't want to use it for your own web site, you may consider selling this domain name to any one else. Already registered domains can be sold for much more than the original registration fee depending on the value of the domain. Profit margin is high, and selling a domain name can be easy, if you know the right steps to take. Before selling domain names on the Internet there are a few things to consider ensuring successful sales like demand of the domain name, popularity of the existing site duration like 1 year etc.

Another important thing about the value of any domain name is the actual running website, for example, a domain name that is only a domain, without any websites may never be sold very much, even if it is a very popular keyword, because the actual value will be connected to the fame of the website, its revenue, PageRank and many more factors.

Most domains sold on the 2ndary market (as opposed to new registrations and drop-catches) are bought because someone has a plan for them, is trying to build or protect a brand identity.

So pagerank, website, hits etc are all completely irrelevant. What matters are ...
its short, memorable or clever - people are *generally* stupid, forgetful and poor typists, and domain are there to save us remembering ip addresses and port numbers.

Well I disagree with part of this. If you buy a domian that has been around for a while you will be indexed better in search engines that a domain that is fresh so some of this is relevant.

That can be somewhat true. If it was a PR domain and it's beend expired for a few months, the PR will drop drastically. However, I have registered a domain that was developed at one point in time. So as soon as I got it up, I had users signing up thinking the forum was back up!

Brand value is also a must when your buying a already registerd domain, or it could be an extra advantage + the number of back links it has is very vital and can be a key factor of evaluating the true value

Well.. I noticed based off a few members in the marketing field. The PR status of a domain many not really help sell it. Sure it may be a PR4 or PR5 domains, but that doesn't neccesarly mean that those backlinks will be used. Some backlinks are soo old or posted so long ago, people never even use them to get or find the domain.

As long as the search engines find them and take them into consideration, they're valuable. :)
