Seedbox VPS

Guys me and my brother are looking for a Seedbox VPS. I already have a VPS at switchlink so naturally I recommended them to him. But in all fairness I have no idea about seedbox servers, or if thiers are any good!

Does anyone here have any experience with seedbox servers? Basically just needs unmetered bandwith, looking at around £25-30 a month. What is a good platform for it? Switchlink use Torrentflux but I dont know that much about it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Steve,

I'm assuming its torrent flux based on this:

TorrentFlux Hosting
With full Administrative Access to TorrentFlux, you have full control over your BitTorrent transfers. You can even set your Seedbox to subscribe to RSS Torrent Feeds

The text is seen on the page where you select Seedbox hosting from the vps servers drop down.

I don't know gregsam. It raises some red flags for me when I see for sale signs. Do you know why Torrent flux is being sold?

I didn't know it was for sale? Just heard its a fairly good platform.

We ended up going with Switchlink for the seedbox server anyway, and so far so good. Haven't run into any kind of caps so far, and our seed rating has gone through the roof so no more ban threats for us haha!

Steve, you seem fairly clued up on this, if torrentflux is being sold, presumably for a reason, what other one would you recommend in this case?

You can use a VPS with about 30GB orso, and then just use it to seed the most recent content, so you mostly download the content to your home pc, and just leave the recent stuff up there, until you have reached the desired share ratio, and then delete it, and add new content.

If you get a dedicated seedbox with a big hdd you might feel like just using it as storage aswell.

You don't need to search for specific seedbox offers, although this might offer more security since they wouldn't take anything down I guess.

With your price budget you can get a very decent VPS. The bandwidth is what you really want to look for when using the VPS for alot of downloading and upload. The CPU and ram specifications are not that important when you are just going to be using it for seeding. Look in the advertising section and see if anyone there allows torrents with high amounts of bw on their VPS plans.

Re :

when talking about ppi, seedbox and vps would server the same purpose right? both are just a really fast seed for your torrents, right? which one is usually cheaper? and we want one because the faster the seeding speed the more downloads you'll get right!?

TorrentFlux is simply horrid unstable bloatware. If you are doing this in a VPS, look at rtorrent + rutorrent. It runs nicely in ~100mb for apps/OS and there are many tutorials out there explaining step by step how to build it.
Code:
rtor@rt:~$ ls torrents/ | wc -l
192
rtor@rt:~$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 256 90 165 0 0 0
-/+ buffers/cache: 90 165
Swap: 0 0 0
rtor@rt:~$ uptime
 16:01:22 up 35 days, 15:45, 1 user, load average: 0.02, 0.03, 0.00
rtor@rt:~$

I recommended to check out these two companies:
seedbox.org.ua
farelhosting.com

Seedbox.org.ua - is my favorite! They specialized on things like this!

No such thing as unlimited, don't make me bring my Coke example into the discussion again! :D

When you buy a bottle Coke, you choose a 330ml, 500ml, whatever amount, you can't buy unlimited.

Torrentflux-NG is awesome but its hard to find.

Torrentflux uses too many resources, I recommend using rtorrent/ruTorrent, its a linux torrent client and a web-ui that looks like utorrent.

A good place to get a seedbox is getaseedbox.com. I use them for months.

Cheers.
