Security settings for FrontPage

I have question regarding FrontPage. To enable customers to publish the web site you have to provide them with the authentication.
Now, I do not want to allow Basic Authentication, but Integrated Windows Authentication for publishing FP webs. Is there problems with that? I mean, are there FrontPage clients who do not support Integrated Windows Authentication?

I'm not sure, but isn't it better to use Integrated Windows Authentication only on an internal network?
If you run behind a firewall it's probably better to use Basic Authentication with SSL.

Basic Authentication is the industry standard, and there may be some browser compatability issues with Integrated Windows Authentication.

Thank you, Blue.

I am not actually interested in web browser's support for Integrated Windows Authentication, but FP client (like MS FrontPage), because I am just interested in authentication while publishing web site. Other parts of web site are protected by IISPassword which uses Basic Authentication.
So, the more precise question would be: are there FrontPage publishing clients which do not support Integrated Windows Authentication?

As far as I know all of the Front Page versions will support it. The only ones that may not are versions previous to FrontPage 98 which were developed by Vermeer Technologies, before Microsoft bought FrontPage from them.

Hello brnhill,

You can use IISPassword with FrontPage and Basic Authentication. This is the way to do it:
switch off Basic Authentication for your web site, but turn it on for _vti* (or just _vti_bin) folders. That way you will have both Basic Authentication for publishing FrontPage webs and IISPassword for efficient protection of other folders.
