If you are planning to go for one, make sure that the company you have selected provides secure web hosting services.

There are some basic factors that you need to keep in mind, before you opt for a particular web hosting service provider. These include:

* Check out whether the web hosting company has dedicated servers.
* In case your web hosting company offers domain registration.
* Ask your web hosting company on what platform will they host your web site.
* A secure web hosting company will regularly monitor their server as well as their clients.
* In addition, ensure that the web hosting company has enough resources to improve their security measures continuously.
* Make sure that the server of your web hosting service provider is managed and well protected by heavy duty firewalls.
* Another simple way to achieve secure web hosting is to use a strong password with at least 8 characters including a combination of letters, symbols and numbers.

That's true..
cPanel has "Generate Password" option available almost everywhere. Every time when you are creating a database !important, email account or something else.. make sure to use this feature.
This is for your own safety :)

Very good advise - I can't tell you how many customers that we've had over the years have had issues with their very basic passwords being cracked :smash:

The title says Secure Hosting - I'm trying to correlate some of these to security issues, like if they offer domain registration? How would you determine if they have enough resources to improve their security measures continuously?

While it's definitely important to have a secure host, security starts with the end user. If one uses weak passwords, then they could be hosted at Fort Knox, and it wouldn't matter.

I understand using secure passwords and recommending others to do the same, but in all honesty this has very little to do with the actual security of a web hosting account.

There's no mention of PCI Audits, software updates, sFTP only, SSL Activated Control Panels only, ISO 9000 datacenters, etc.

The platform used (whether they say windows or linux) really doesn't matter. BOTH can be secured, and to the end user, it doesn't matter which is being used.

While it's a nice list, I personally don't see it being on the line of a secure hosting ideas.

Well, like the other said, I am not sure if the list is relevant to secure hosting ideas. Anyway, I have no idea why we have to make sure that the web host whose service we are using has dedicated servers. What if we just need a shared hosting package or VPS?

I think the user who said this means to check if the host is using its own dedicated servers or if it is using another provider's service.

I love that feature in cPanel and I use it all the time :)

Still not sure this is even a security issue. It may even be more of a risk if they only own 1 dedicated server and don't know how to secure it properly. Would rather go with a reseller selling quality hosting from a bigger more secure company.

Just my 2 cents tho
