Roomba's

You know those vacumns that work on their own? Little robot helper is what I call mine, well am really itching to take mine apart but I do not want to break it either. I think its just the geek in me that wants to see if I can make a switch for it since it refuses to vacumn my floor rug in the living room (it has black stitching as it looks like a Tetris game, and the roomba thinks its going off the edge of something).

I have a hunch what you need to modify would be software related, not a simple switch, but with some luck, it has an underside sensor that you could trick/remove? Never had one myself. :)

I have peeked around for any type of detachable sensor but so far no good luck. There is some site called hacked roomba or something similar I am still trying to weed through and see if they have any suggestions. I really want to be able to enable/disable the "near drop point" whatever its called so it will take care of my oriental rug. It does well and was not a big hit on the price but thats the only thing that bugs me about it (so far).

I would fear that by ripping off a sensor that you would essentially render the machine unable to do its job. Hacking the code would be a far more reliable option if you were able to do it, to teach it a way to better recognise your rug.
