RIAA Prank Call

Hehe bit repetitive but not bad ;)
I am an open fan and supporter of peer to peer networks.
I actually coded a pretty advanced program for p2p and also owned a few sites dedicated to p2p (Still have one up) plus I used to be a beta tester for a program called Filetopia, have used that for at least 5 years now.

I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't be in favor of p2p though.
I am more interested in the idea of the networks and the background running rather than using them myself though.

I've said this somewhere before, some people seem to forget that p2p has legitimate uses and they just focus in on illegal music swapping and software piracy.

It is very difficult to re-educate these people to see the legitimate uses for the technology.

Very true :)
A lot of programs are getting shut down, and even the coders being sued because of what their program is being used for.
It's like a car manufacturer being sued if a car was used for something illegal.
Many of the coders don't even use their own programs, they just like to code and are interested in what they can do with a network and being able to do something successful.

My program got pretty far and could do almost everything many of the current p2p programs can do, and I would have kept it going if I had the time but since I was making my money in the hosting and it was needing more and more time, I had to leave my programming.

I didn't actually use it once while it was up apart from testing the network, I also know coders of other programs don't use the file sharing on them, many don't even use the chat if it is available.

People just hear about the p2p networks having to do with something illegal, but there are many uses, as you said.
For example, I was contacted my a few companies looking to use my network protocol for internal file sharing and private messaging...just one of the many things it could be used for :)

My little band - Wally and The Wankers - look for an mp3 coming to a file sharing site near you, has decided that when we get bigger that Zeppelin, we're only going to sell CDs to the RIAA, everyone else can have the mp3's for free

John <---- AGAIN getting on the FBI watch list.

I don't believe in paying for music seeing most of it goes to the RIAA anyways. Id rather cut a check to the artists. It would save me much more money :)

Congrats FatalSw1tch!

fallcreek, even though that was a joke (I think ;) ) a lot of bands did get their name known a lot more by putting their music on the net so people could download.
A lot of big artists are totally in favor of p2p and people having the freedom to download their music. A lot of artists aren't doing music to make money, they do it for the love of music.
