Reclaiming a DN after webhost's fleeing?...An odyssey!

Hello, once more im in need of advice..

I am trying to reclaim my Domain Name.My previous host had a huge debt and dissapeared but i managed to locate his phone number. He was not helpfull at all and locating him when he wanted to disappear didnt have any "shock value" on him so as to rethink his ways of bussinessand for a change help me...

Im now struggling with my Domain Name which was registered by GoDaddy...A friend of mine sent them an email (my job was to find another host and he helps by doing "sidejobs") and they responded that they must have the signature and agreement of our webhost in order to give us the DN.The thing is that in order to have his signatuere or agreement the webhost owner must cooperate or at least not be on the run!!! It is ofcourse reduntant to say that i payed for the domain and after his run he is not going to do anything with it but let it expire (which by the way is in a years time)

I have told some people my situation and they are trying to help but i would like your experience on that.Any situations like that in which you have been involved? Any way to work it through? I guess in not the first with this kind of problem...

Thank you in advance

If your former host put everything in their name there is not a lot you or anyone else can do. It will be up to that owner of record to initiate a transfer to you. If on the otherhand they put you in as the registrant and themselves only as administrative and technical contacts then you should have minimal trouble getting the registrar to give you access.
Once again this stresses the importance of not allowing a host to register your domain in their name.
Good luck in getting your domain name back.

Oh well...

Yup....

I think i may need to play my last card : Call the guy up and hope he cooperates...

So far Godaddy hasnt helped, and my ways of "going around" the problem didnt shed any light...

Oh well :D

If the emails listed in the domain's whois are yours, you can transfer the domain to another registrar and thus get control over the domain.

im such a newbie...

As you have guessed so far there is nothing proving this domain name is mine except my word...

I rechecked the domain today and it is parked on godaddy.com... I wonder what does this mean.

Any effort i did contacting my previous webhost is in vain...I left messages to every mobilenumber associated with him i could find, and the mobile number he had and used to work now isnt working...He pulled a hundini on me again...

Why?

Is it SO difficult to give me a domain naium which is utterly useless to him?

Does he REALLY want to make me go to Sweden and pay him a little visit? (Im crazy enough to do it,although this is the last solutuon.Believe me he WOULDNT like to meet me after all this mistreatment...)

He knows you want it and that you will do whatever you can to register it in your own name, so he probably is holding because he thinks he can make money from you.

GoDaddy parked the domain name because there is no active website on it. I don't know the actual domain name, but I am guessing that when it is visited there will be some sort of web directory with a search field.

The only thing he would get from me is

a) a face to face meeting
b) me handing all the data i have for him over to the company that he defrauded for several thousand dollars.

Im certainly not a "difficult customer" ,nor "a guy of revenge". My patience is quite big and my low profile is something many people comment on...BUT: now and then some people manage to infuriate me!

I have left messages to all his mobile phone numbers,to his yahoo address as well as on irc on his nickname...Ithink he is just being irresponsible.

Hello,

This normally happens when the domain is registered by the hosting company free of cost for you. In such cases the domain name is held by the hosting company and the domain's ownership is retained by the hosting company. Some may hold that ownership for the certain period time and if you cancel your hosting with in that period then the domain name is held.

In this case you need to contact the hosting company and pay the charges for the domain that they have registered for you and take the ownership of the domain.

Thank you.

Regards,
