Who does use PSM now or has in the past? We still use them from time to time but it seems they are always like "a fart in a whirlwind", not saying they are bad but sometimes it seems they are so backlogged that the simplest of things takes too long. :rolleyes2

we use them and still use their service.. yeah..sometime it's took more time to complete a task..

we have them as a backup..when our tech sick or something..we got it cover...

PSM is stand for " PlatinumServermanagement" they are quite popular for affordable server admin.

try google for it.

PlatinumServermanagement are good, we had a problem with them a while back ended up doing some work on the firewall, 10min later ssh and http was blocked on all IP's... not good looked like they just rushed the work.
Other than that everything gets done within a few hours and normally to a decent level.

PSM are a very good company. It's important to note that they cost $29.95 per month (so obviously wouldn't be the same as hiring your own server tech!), but for the price they offer very good service.

While they provide a great service for a good price, I have noted issues when they are managing VPSs. They do not necessarily look into details such as configuring files so it will work correctly inside a VPS. However for dedicated servers I'm sure they are great.

Years ago we had them managing about 50 of our servers - basically overflow work. When we needed repetitve tasks done on servers we had them do some of the work with us while our admins concentrated on other things.

We've had a good relationship with them over the years, and I still refer people to their company that are looking for server management.

You must remember that they are a REACTIVE Management company - they will only do the work that you tell them to do. If you know nothing about servers and don't know to tell them to check the logs at x,y,z you run the risk of paying for services you don't use.

If you have specific setup requirements, make sure that it's documented on EACH TICKET. They do not have a cheat sheet for their admins to look at before accessing your server and enabling phpsuexec after an Apache recompile on a server that shouldn't have it enabled. It can create quite a headache some times.

For the most part - they've been a good company for us to work with. The last time I worked with them personally was about 4 years ago.

I don't think I would ever trust a $30/mo tech team to manage my machines.

Personally I would much rather rely on automation/scripting than human beings for repetitive tasks -- cheaper and more secure.

It all depends really. There are some things that automation is good for and there are some things that really a person should watch and babysit. I'm a huge believer in automation, but if something doesn't go 100% right, there has to be a human there immediately to resolve the issue so that there is no increased downtime or long term effect. We 100% automate our install/setup scripts for dedicated servers and VPS servers, however a tech is required to watch the script and verify the settings. There are checklists along the way that must be met before going to the next procedure - it's just another backup plan that we have in place to make sure everything is doing what it's supposed to do. Happy to pay an admin to sit there and watch a screen and KNOW everything is working correctly.

There's a reason that we have our own system admins here, but when overflow was needed back in 2003/2004 we had used their service and didn't have any issue.
