PBN backlinks

It depends on your definition of "worth".

In a long term SEO plan with a legit business, no, they're not worth the risk. They do have an impact, but they can do major long term damage.

Short term SEO (website built to sell Christmas Stuff for example) are often built on a throwaway domain. You run SaeO for a few months, pump a few ads as the date gets closer, spam everywhere and then dump or forget about the site in January. This is often the route of black hat SEO. Long term is never the plan.

Since we only work with businesses, I never use PBN for their sites.

Hi bigredseo,

Thank you for your reply.

What is the best way to build the backlinks ? Is paying for the guest posts on relevant high DA website is good for ranking ?

Hey Steve,

The problem with High DA websites is where is the information on the High DA coming from. All the various tools have their own internal ranking, so a High DA with MOZ may not be the same DA at ahrefs or others. Also, that DA calculation gets updated from time to time, so what was a High DA last year with Moz may be a different DA this year (they completely rewrote how they calculate DA).

All that said, yes, a High DA/DR does help - but I wouldn't necessarily use that as a ranking factor to determine quality of link.

Instead, focus on links that are in you niche, and check the actual popularity of the page where your link will be posted. You can have a High DA domain, but a low DA page - but the places sell based on the domain DA.

I use ahrefs nearly exclusively when looking at domains and use their DR (Domain Rank) and UR (URL Rating) as a guide. Then looking at where the link is being placed, how many other links are on that page, how old the page is and what the topic is of the page (and site).

In nearly every case you can bypass any of that research and just target sites that have good content that your visitors might like, and then based on that, users of that site might like your site too.

Guest posts are good, but a better method is providing high quality content on your site, then reaching out to those other places to let them know that your content exists and it might be a good fit for users. At that point, you're not purchasing a link, you're not buying a guest post, you're just providing information that might be useful to their users, and USUALLY they will link to it.

So, for us, we might make an article about the usefulness of an "Abanodoned Cart" feature in a site. We then create an article detailing the positives and negatives and then a few suggestions on plugins that can make like easier for users. We then would reach out to other sites that have created a "top 10 abandoned cart plugins" type page, let them know our content exists with further details, and they would link to it.

We're working with a Tractor Auction place right now and in their auctions we have information on the engine, parts and other information about that specific tractor. We then reached out to other auction places or sites with information about that specific tractor and let them know we've compiled extra detailed information about that specific vehicle. Most places then link to the page. We're not getting a link to the actual auction, we're getting a link to the information on a tractor, so we're building overall DA (Domain Authority) when it comes to that topic, and that in turn is being used to push up the auction lists.

So we skip the guest posts, and instead have better content on the website.

A dating site, we list out popular date locations, restaurants and activities. We then push that information out to other sites that are talking about events in a town, things to do, and the locations themselves. Often they link to our page. Our page then also promotes the dating app.

All that said, if you have a site that is in your niche, and they offer banners for advertising, it MIGHT be worth paying for those eyes on the banners. If you run a datacenter, using the banners on this site (hostingdiscussion.com) would be a great way to get your name in front of others in your industry. At the same time, webdesigners might see a bump in eyes if they advertise here too - it's in a similar market, but it's not about SEO at that point, it's about actual eyes on traffic and people clicking through to the site.

Getting backlinks from a PBN is a very divisive topic.

There will be people who will use PBNs to build links, all things considered.

However, and as mentioned already, there’s too much risk involved when using PBN backlinks in your attempts to increase your site’s rankings.
