I've been trying to get hosting customers and I'm using paypal to process orders since my company is new. I'm wondering if that is what is keeping people from ordering because they don't like paypal. What do you all think?

I only offer PayPal as payment and see no problems with it. I strongly believe the problem lies in how you market your company. Customers may not see what they want in you, hence did not sign up at your company.

How can you be sure it's something that is keeping people from ordering? (PayPal is NOT the problem) What kind of marketing strategies are you employing? Have you surveyed your client base to see what they like or dislike about your service. I see no testimonials on your site.

My company offers only paypal payments and we dont have any problem with our clients. It doesnt matter which payment method you use.

That's what I'm saying, I haven't gotten even my first client yet even though the server logs show a good flow of visitors to the site. It just seems weird because you'd think that at least someone would have ordered by now. Had one almost order but then backed out before submitting the payment.

I've redeveloped the site but I have to install it yet. I started it yesterday and will work on it more this evening. Am going to revamp the billing procedure also because even though I wrote the cgi to process orders for web hosting accounts, I don't have anything automated yet for purchasing domain names and I need to do that. But I don't know that it is something that should keep clients away.

I had a person fill out the order form awhile back but didn't complete the payment process. I emailed them and told them I could go ahead with the order once the payment process was completed. I make it a point to contact potential customers to find out what might be holding them back and she said she was going to stick with her current host because they offered more space. I took an objective look at my hosting plans as though I was looking at them from a customers point of view and they don't offer much space. I tend to be very technical in my approach, maybe because I've worked with the backend for so long but it looks to me like I have to increase the amount of space I am allocating to hosting accounts. 5GB 10GB and 15GB

I dont think paypal is an issue that keeps customer away from ordering. Because paypal is what makes the payment method easy for both seller and buyers.

Paypal could be the problem if you are targeting some other countries. People in other countres do not look at Paypal the same way we do here.

Probably the prices or the way you advertise. If you advertise only on forums like these, most of the visitors will be hosting companies and resellers that will surely not buy from you and they just came to check you out. Paypal is surely not a reason.

I really don't think that using PayPal is the issue at all. If you are a start-up company, people are naturally going to be hesitant about entrusting their domains to you. Do you have testimonials onsite? Maybe you could consider offering a special promotional limited time offer to get things moving for you.

Hi

I see several points

1) your site design. this looks cheap and amateurish
2) you offer Plesk, which a majority of people use cPanel
3) you need a billing management system like Clientexec/WHMCS (their are some free ones if you look online)
4) every page you go too is totally different in design

try a few cut price plans on ebay to give you a start

Most people that I see end up using PayPal after they have used our services before. CC is always great since the transaction is backed by the company, with PP virtual goods can not be disputed.

I agree with a few people above in saying that it isn't paypal that is stopping consumers from purchasing your service. Revamping your marketing methods or possibly reformatting your packages of services could bring in new customers.

That was on my mind also. I have the site redeveloped and moved it to a new server. I have to install the site yet but it's fully redeveloped and has new plans. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your thoughful response. The site has actually been redeveloped. Parts of it had been put on the old server so that's why it appeared different depending on which area of the site you were on. I am working on setting up a server with cPanel. The server that hosted my own domains was discontinued and moved to another server so I can set up another with cPanel. It has been something that was on my mind and is coming soon.

My billing system is actually on the backend and not visible on the front end.

Very good input from everyone and much appreciated. The website is undergoing complete redevelopment and moving to a new server and will offer both Plesk and cPanel as is noted by the graphics on the new site. As someone pointed out, most people are familiar with cPanel. My own experience has been mostly with Plesk so that was why I had that on the server but will set up another server soon with cPanel. Plans will change also and offer far more space. I'm seeing in the hosting industry so may offer more space than people actually use. I know that one of my first accounts with the provider I currently have many years ago offered 1500MB but the admin panel was telling me I had used all my space at 100MB, when I told them something was wrong they increased the amount of space. Being new to hosting and being very technical I was setting up plans counting on all my clients to use 100% of their space. But it appears that's not how most providers set things up.
