PAID HOSTING with forced advertisement?

You tell me guys if payed hosting can have forced adds on the https-?

We first thaught it was humiliating but hostkeeper.com dont believe it is so ,they make you buy private ip's to remove their desease and I dont think is fair because even free hosting dont have forced adds but howeverly this lack of shame kept our money and didnt give refund just because they think they have the right to put their big balls as hat to everybody but not us,they kept our money but we didnt use the service because if they are so pridefull so we...
but one thing sure they wont get 1 cent from us in the future.

Interesting, just out of curiosity, what type of add did they place on your website?
 
Does their website state they will not put ads on your site. How about their TOS? If it doesnt mention it, you are right, however if it is stated by them, you are wrong and it is one more example of not reading carefully. I do believe that this is unfair still, and I believe it is "double-dipping."
 
It sounds like you're using a shared SSL Certificate through them, and as a result, they're posting the ads. While I don't agree with it, I have seen it done like this before with hosts "back in the day". Purchasing a dedicated IP number means you can then put on your own SSL Certifciate. Anyone who is serious about business should not be using shared SSL Certifciates anyway.

I checked their TOS and they do not mention such charges on their terms. I also couldn't find anything (other than dedicated servers) which provided SSL or a Dedicated IP number, or information about them.

What kind of ads were showing? Might you have been confusing an Advertisement with an SSL Popup warning about a shared hosting SSL environment?
 
Out of curiosity, if you aren't happy with that, why not consider switching to a different provider?
 
This is the first time I have ever heard of this. I certainly don't agree with this either but you should really be using a private SSL certificate. Using a shared certificate looks very bad not only to your visitors but to the search engines too.

A wholt website of theirs on the https is what they showed I dont know if you get it whenever browser hits https blink is their website,ye it must be ssl but this is weird,hadnt happened to me and there was no sign on their website they did this,who could imagine

I do agree with Plexihost most people pay so that they don't have forced ads but here it is totally different.This is really strange.I have never heard of this.

When they won't refund your money then it tends to make you try and work it out with them. However, since it does appear to be an ssl issue it isn't so surprising. As has been said, no one buys hosting to then have to have ads.
 
Forced ads on paid hosting isn't acceptable typically. You paid for hosting and unless you agreed in the beginning with their TOS/AUP then you shouldn't be happy. If there are no ads on your public non-https pages and you do see them on their shared https pages that is slightly different as you are using their resources. Every SSL requires a dedicated IP to function properly.
 
i have also heard it first time and simply not an acceptable thing, forced ads on paid hosting .. quite understandable.
 
I've seen forced ad's on error pages from the hosting company. 404's and such. paid hosting too, from big name companies too.

Even if they let you create custom error pages to cover those. kinda weird I think.

Well not if you are paying for your own HTTPS service no, but as has already been said when you don't have your own dedicated I.P address and so are sharing a certificate-then yes, it has to be. If you want your own certificate you have to buy your own dedicated I.P.
 
I personally think any paid hosting should remove all ads and links to the host company. The only exception would be the nameservers. I would suggest just moving a new host if this bothers you.

Im sure you can find a plan for the same price somewhere else with no ads at all.

Yes-because you are using a service that they are kindly allowing you to without charging you more. The need to pay more cash is to get yourself a dedicated IP addy so that you can get your own certificate. Then you won't need their shared service and won't have to complain about the ads. Kappish?
