Page Load Times

With a good speed internet connection, what sort of page load times would it be reasonable to expect from your website, at peak hours for said site? I am experiencing a go slow on my site and am sure that it's not my connection causing the problem.

Usually it should take about 2 - 3 seconds to load a website. Some providers might be able to render faster with better hardware/networks. I would personally try to optimize apache/mysql as it's usually what takes the most server resource usage on a server.

Do you have a dedicated server or are you on shared/reseller?

Thank you. I have shared hosting for this particular website and am definitely unhappy with the current load times. Thanks for the optimisation link, I'll check it out. It's a small site, small pages, I fear the problem is not with what code I have put up.

You can always check the speed of your site using alertra.com, uisng this site you will be able to check the speed of the site from different places of the world.

On a high speed internet, you should be able to open a page in a matter of a few seconds. I have always learned that visitors will likely leave your site all together if it does not load in under 30 seconds (but even I will leave well before that).

Page loading also depends on the your connection speed ;) And you need to remember about that while counting.

And hence I said in my first post;

I am more than aware of the effect of personal connection speeds on page load times, having started out with a 14.4 baud modem and worked up to my current broadband connection.

A couple seconds is definitely optimum with everything being as it should on a failr fast connection. Anything over ten without large files or media would cause me some concern. First and foremost people don't like to wait and the longer it tries to load the mroe it seems to drop the connection which means even longer load times over multiple attempts.
